I walked September/ October. It was hot! Cooler and mistakes in Galicia but never very cold. I took 1 set of uniqlo thermals which I slept in twice in a cold night, and 1 light uniqlo puffy jacket which weighs nothing. 2 pairs of 3/4 pants and 2 cotton shirts. Took a poncho but you sweat so...
There is an elderly gentleman who caretakers the cathedral at Molinaseca who moved from US after walking Camino. Maybe chat to him. He looks just like Col Sanders.
I thought I could wing it in 2019. Missed a bed in Roncesvalles even though arrived by 2.30pm. Walked on to Espinal but was almost ready to go home then. Continued to SDC but missed out on too many beds to wing it very much after that. That " completo" sign was too common.
As suggested, microspore or paper tape. I wrapped my toes every day - no blisters. Also Arnica pills for sprains, strains, bruises, sore muscles. If you can't buy in home country, they are available from pharmacies in Spain.
I have narrow feet but found Keens Targhee to be perfect. They are a wide shoe but the extra space around the toes helped with blister prevention. I wore a pair of cheap elastic ankle supports and thick socks for a snug fit around ankles.
I am 70 and walked with another 79 year old. There was no consideration re top bunks no matter how early we checked in or even booked day before. Most times we were allocated a bottom bunk and the one above it . Did not make for good sleeping especially if bunks were in the middle of the room...
I apologise to everyone that I am about to offend and this is my opinion only. But when did the Camino change from being a personal sacred experience to a travelogue of stories and photos. I am not Catholic or religious but surely a Camino is more than photos or blogs. My Camino journal was...
In 2019, I was told I didn't have to book at Roncesvalles. So I was one of the huge numbers of exhausted pilgrims who were turned away that afternoon. I had to walk another 10 km to find a bed.
Oops sorry. I meant Santiago. It was mad busy the whole way. I had to pre-book for every night with the admonition that our bookings would only be held until 2.30pm. It meant for early morning starts.
I had the same experience in Sept 2019. So many places booked out including Zubiri by 11am , also Larasoana. Had to taxi onto Pamplona where we were fortunate to find a hotel about 10km off the path. The tsunami continued until SJPDP. Definitely no chance for spontaneity. Will never walk in...
Hi all, I am thinking about CP and am a bit confused about the various paths to SDC. I understand the coastal and central routes from Porto, but what is the Litoral route or the Spiritual variant? Some routes include a quick river crossing and others require a 28 km boat ride.
Has anyone done...
Never found on albergue with curtains. Take a light sarong and some pegs. September nights were sometimes warm but much cooler by October. Try to get a bed by the window and then you can open it whenever.
ALDI sells honey in a plastic bottle with a squirty top. I use it filled with water to remove dirt that collects in sliding door runners. That should work well.
