Just wondering - could I hit SJPDP with nothing but my back pack and willingness - no guide book ( need space/weight for journal) - and still make it to Santiago? That is can you do the journey on a whim and a wish? I suspect you can. Anyone out there who followed their nose?
Hmm instead of gasping and clawing at a strangers boot laces I think I will just pull myself up by own boot laces and take the excellent advice given here - plan for an easy start, know thy body and have no expectations! Have I missed anything?
I am sure I am now going to be perceived as the student in the group who asks a question that is deemed by the group as SO rediculous it could be answered by a child - but here I go anyway - What the hell is a 'chipped card"? When I travelled to France 3 years ago I simply had a debit card (in...
How fantastic and supportive you all are ( exactly what I need!). I had to laugh RambleOn at your response - I too have climbed Table Mountain ( OK it was exactly 19 years ago and I have done no such thing since!) but it did make me laugh and it did make me think , like you- well if I could do...
It would seem ATM's are more accessible in small villages than I had been told - I hate being cash poor, so that is a relief. Thanks for all the extra tips.
Assuming ATM's are not in many villages I am wondering how to calculate how much cash I will need at any given point between ATM's, and secondly I am wondering on how best to carry that amount of cash? Any help most appreciated.
They say your Camino starts the minute you walk out your front door - I suspect my Camino started the moment I connected to you people. Thank you so much - your varied answers reminded me I have choice and that choice is made from freedom and not panic. Thank you so much for your generosity - I...
The more I read about the start from SJPDP the more I worry that on Day one I will be found prostrate, barely breathing, grasping at a passing boot - pleading "tell my family I love them", whilst praying to God to forgive my folly (ie having been so sloven in my physical preparation for such a...
Having now read a lot on this forum I must say, I am overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness expressed here - especially by the Veterans! Thank you!
I woke this morning really excited! I am going to do a solo pilgrimage! May 2010! Thanks so much for all the encouraging responses. So looking forward to reading more on this forum!
When I was 21 I took risks, because I didn't understand there WERE risks! Now I am 44, I wonder if I still can? Looking to hear from girl's who have done it alone! I'm now scared, where I use to be certain! Can a girl walk alone and be safe?
Re: Vicious snarling dogs
Years ago I travelled to inland Bali. I was waiting for a bus. A very nice gentleman asked me to share a coffee whilst we waited for our respective buses. We communed for less than 15 minutes before he had to run and catch his bus.He told me a story - "there are wild...
