Sale on Merrell footwear (December 2024)

Time of past OR future Camino
Us:Camino Frances, 2015 Me:Catalan/Aragonese, 2019
The Merrell website is having a shoe sale where they say you may get up to 60% off their regular price. They have things set up to make finding what you want relatively easy. Go to the website below and choose Sale where you see Home Sale. You can then shop by size by first choosing between Men, Women and Kids. Then they have many ways to filter what gets shown to you, for example trail type or features. The count of matches changes as you pick. You can check more than one box in each category. Then there is a method to sort the results.

The webpage to go to is merrell.com/US/en/outlet/

Many forum members, myself included, are fans of their Moab line. While Moab stands for Mother of all boots they also come in mid-height and shoe styles.

I walked the first Camino in 2009 and since then have probably traipsed around Spain for more than 6000kms, always wearing Merrell Moabs (delighted to find out what 'Moab' stands for!) The longest Way was close to 1600km, and although the soles were as smooth as a baby's...whatever... when I got to Santiago, the upper was still attached to the sole and there was still a little bounce left in the compression zone (although a better insole helped towards the end). They are my 'go to' shoe. I really appreciate the wide toe box etc, but this year, with a newer iteration (Moab II?), I was far less impressed. The left shoe was not water-tight and after only 200kms, the shoes felt flat and non-supportive. I have walked enough to know the difference! I have to point out that I was in a sports supply shop on the Camino Frances this year and they do not carry Merrell products anymore because of this quality issue.

The Moab III is about two years old now. I read a fair bit of criticism about how the quality of the Moab went down when the Moab II replaced the original but I walked a camino in one and decided to pick another pair of version 2. I've been happy with both pairs of them. Thank you for your criticism; I'll look for more reviews before buying a pair of version 3 (there are only two versions in my size on sale now, white and rainbow, no thanks).

Edit: This is what I called "rainbow":

I live in a rural area where there is no easy access to places where I can try other brands and styles. For so many years I could easily order a new pair direct from Merrell, and for the first time, I find myself reluctant to continue the old pattern! I may have no other option, but I will be watching the reviews! (No 'rainbow'?? I do have a pair of Merrell+Unlikely Hikers, but I would never, ever walk a camino in them!)

I have had both Moab boots and shoes, the non-waterproof very breathable ones for hot country walking. The boots are still going strong, but the shoes had a stiff bit of plastic supporting the upper around the heel. Before the lining was compressed and worn there was no problem but when the lining became thinner the plastic quickly rubbed through and shredded my heel, this took only about 6 months from new. However the boots are made differently and are fine after about 3 years of steady usage.
