Camino Portuguese from December 13th to January 14th

Hey all,

I'm very excited as I have the opportunity to walk the Camino again and I can't wait.

I walked the Camino Frances a couple years back, but I wanted to check in so I know what to expect.

Before they said to expect to pay about 30 euros a day. Is that still a good average or should I expect to pay more?

Should I be worried about finding places to stay? For the Frances everything seemed to be pretty easy except for the last 100km but I can see the situation being different since it will be winter.

Does anyone here have any experience with this so I can go in well prepared?

Nothing I can help you with unfortunately but I’ll hopefully be starting out two weeks after you and would highly appreciate any updates on walking in Portugal during this time of the year.

I guess you’ll start in Lisbon given the time you have available?

As for 30€ a day - that’s around what I spent last year on the Invierno, Salvador and Primitivo. Staying at municipal albergues, preparing dinner myself, not drinking much in terms of alcohol or coffee (I don’t drink either anyway so that’s just a natural and easy way to keep the budget down). If you eat out often (especially if you want breakfast / lunch / dinner) you’ll struggle.

Yes, I will start in Lisbon and end in Santiago. Maybe Finisterre if I make good time but I doubt it.

Okay, sounds good! Yeah, I treat the 30 a day as being the minimum I can walk it as. I do like the wine, coffee, etc but I always bring extra for that since if I start spending too much that can always get cut.

I just hope most of the albergues are open.

30 Euros day was okay a few years ago, but prices have gone up. And some lower cost places will be closed this time of year, so you may have to spend more for accommodation. I would budget at least 50 Euros per day to be on the safe side.

I'd check Gronze for accommodation prices and open dates.

I just scanned our local municipally managed pilgrimage albergue (Ponte de Lima, Portugal). Appears to be open throughout your intended travels, though one hour shorter hours than the high season. You can scan here: https://www.facebook.com/albergueperegrinospontedelima

We live ~100m from the Camino and across from another (slightly more expensive) place. Still seeing pilgrims, just not as many as summer or even early fall.
