Are bed bugs a problem in the winter months?

I’ve had a few run-ins with bed bugs at rentals. They are the most disgusting, invasive, awful things in the world.

Thanks in advance

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

We encountered them last winter in Sarria in one of the 2 dorms where my group was staying on Dec 30, so yes, they can still be a problem, but only at that one place. We just put everything in the dryer and no further issues.

Holoholo automatically captures your footpaths, places, photos, and journals.
If you encounter these little creatures please let the establishment manager know immediately. Ideally ALL establishments, especially those that close for the winter, should undertake a thorough cleaning of all accommodation facilities. Such detailed cleaning is I believe much easier if there are no guests.

Short answer. Yes bed bugs are always a problem and it's hard to predict what hostel they will be in!

If there's no hospitalero there when you leave, please leave a note about where you noticed them. (Which dorm.)

October 1 and 2, 2024, I stayed at Pension Santa Cruz in Santiago de Compostela. Forty-eight hours later, at least two dozen bed bug welts erupted on my body. I informed the Pension, so hopefully they have solved the problem. Fenestil ointment and Zyrtek pills eased the itching and discomfort. Washing all my clothes and and drying at high heat in the dryer prevented further further bites.
