Well friends, I can happy and proudly said that I'll start my sixth time volunteering in St. John the Babtist albergue in Gañon from next October the16th, to October the 31th.
If you decided to stay and rest a day there, you'll be welcome.
If simply want to use the facilities, have a cup of coffee, or just say hi, you'll be welcome too.
The albergue will be warm, the facilities clean, and the hospitaleros happy to help you.

Grañon is so special. When I arrived just over a year ago on October 8th, my friend told me he had volunteered us to cook the pilgrim meal. I nearly strangled him but it was the most wonderful experience. So many people volunteered to help and the spirit and warmth of the place seemed to permeate everyone. Grañon and Zabaldika were our favourite albergues on the Camino Francés…

I stayed at Granon once, on my way through on my first camino. I had read Brierley's remark that the albergue at Granon was not for anyone who had spent the previous night in Santo Domingo and walked only the short distance to Granon. I ignored it. I had come far enough, from western Canada, to feel entitled to spend a night at this famous albergue. The next time that I walked through, it was closed, and I was very glad that I had stayed there once.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
I have not stayed before and would love to. Can anyone confirm if it is open over winter?

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Hey Pinguigrino! From your photo it looks like you were the hospitalero for my first visit, 16 November 2008. There had been few donations the previous day, so you were only able to make us cabbage soup - but it was delicious! and we found lots of bits and pieces in our packs to share, to supplement it. Also a local guy came in with a bag of chestnuts and we were able roast these on the fire. Someone played a little bit of piano, and there was a pilgrim called James who played trumpet.
Granon was one of the highlights of an incredible camino experience that really did change a lot of things for me - so Muchos Gracias (if it was you that was the hospi - but either way, I'm extremely grateful to all the Granon volunteers)
