Time of past OR future Camino
Camino de Santiago: Mid-September - October '24
Bon jour! Hola! Hello!
Having recently passed through the CdS French route from Orisson to Ronconsavalles, I was deeply disappointed to see a huge mass of trash on this sacred way. I am wondering if future Pilgrims would be willing to bring a bag and some plastic gloves to pitch in to dismantle the eyesore. It is unfathomable to me that this has grown and has gone unaddressed and ignored!
Would you be one of many of whom I hope will assist in cleaning up what should have never been started in the first place?
Let’s not make a bad reputation to the communities that we all pass through along The Way…
Thank you in advance for being a helpful Pilgrim! 🇫🇷🥾❤️🦶🇪🇸

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
We walked thru there on Sept 5 and everyone was saddened to see all this trash piled & left, but we had no way to clean it up or hall it off. Thank you for organizing this effort.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Sorry I am not in a position here I can help you, but I am not surprised at this at all. Human nature, on a never-ending number of occasions, loves to disappoint and let people down--Always has and always will or at least for a few more millennium。 However, this is counter-balanced, not perfectly, by those who take good and appropriate actions to make up for others. Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I have not walked the CF yet, but have read occasionally on this forum about people who systematically carry a rubbish bag which they empty when they come through a village/town. Then there are also the “ditch pigs”(?) organised by Rebekkah Scott who, I think, clean up regularly. But not, I suppose, the whole length of the CF.

dismantle the eyesore....this has grown and has gone unaddressed and ignored... cleaning up what should have never been started in the first place?
I know there is plenty of trash along the Camino, and expect that you have contributed to the effort to clean it up. However, I am curious where/what this specific eyesore is, that was started by someone and needs to be dismantled.

Some individuals that walk the Camino come with an understanding of not leaving a trace of their passing. Others that walk do not have this same understanding and consequently, you can trace wherever they have walked by the trash and litter they leave behind them.
I have observed some that can humbly correct others and smoothly encourage individuals not to leave trash on the Way. Though some may walk in ignorance and a subtle correction is accepted while others receive any degree of correction poorly and bad feelings are left behind.
I choose to just bring a bag that allows me to assist cleaning the path as I go and forget about the "why" of litter along the way.

It is between Orisson and Ronconsavalles…

Yes, but that is over 15 km. Are you saying there is a mass of garbage all the way, or is there a particular pile or location or installation that shouldn't have been started and now needs dismantling? Does it need a truck and heavy equipment like the Cruz de Ferro, or does it need a team of volunteers with tongs and plastic bags?

I haven't walked that stage for 9 years. I haven't heard from others that it has become a disgusting garbage path now, so I am curious.

Hola!
It was one massive pile near a water fountain, and as I recall there was fencing right near it. It was not a pretty sight. Apologies that I can’t pin it down for you any better…
Cheers~•
