Time flies!
It's only a year to go till our Camino Madrid so gear is being checked, weighed, sorted..........

Sadly my Pilgrim Shell has broken in storage and needs to be replaced.
I know I can get one from Ivar, but Euro 30 for postage to Australia seems a bit wasteful.

Is there somewhere I can find one in Madrid?

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.

Could a local fishmonger not be of help?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
You could try the church of Santiago y San Juan Batista, not far from Sol. The church issues credenciales for the C de Madrid. they’re in the room at the rear on the left.

You find one along the journey that will be more meaningful. My first shell broke, too. Since then I bought one (meaningless), had one gifted to me by the Anfas Albergue hospitalero in Estella ( the albergue that helps people with disabilities), and got a home-made tiny one in Arrés. The last two are really more special to me. I wasn't looking for a shell and they were unexpected gifts of the journey.

I read yesterday that you will be in the UK prior to your Camino. The Cofraternity of St.James UK, sell scallop shells on their online shop. There office is in London and it’s open to the public on Thursdays they also have pub get togethers. Maybe you could chat to them directly and something could be figured out whereby you could pick up the shell from their office or at the pub get together. Worth a try.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Different trip ;)

I started the Camino Madrid at the end of August and picked up both my credential and scallop shell at the Church of Santiago and Juan Bautista, in the sacristy on the left hand side. If you happen upon a church service in session, stay until the end as the priest asks pilgrims to step forward the front of the altar for a pilgrim blessing.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hi Robo, I am sure we probably have a spare one in our collection we can give you when we get back to Sydney.

Go to a restaurant and enjoy a plate of zamburinas. Pick your favourite shell and lick all the butter off. Soak the shell in a dilute bleach solution (1 tsp in 1L water) overnight. You can bore a hole in the shell with a swiss army knife.

Best answer! They're really only in Season in winter and early spring though, and Madrid is a bit of a stretch from the ocean... still!

Hi, I’m thinking of walking the Camino de Madrid again next year. Any suggestions on budget places to stay the first few days that are not more than 15 kms apart?
I plan to walk the Camino de Madrid in July 2025. I've seen a Kindle 2019 book on Amazon. Is there any guidebook after that date or will be before July 2025? Thanks.
