Time of past OR future Camino
2025?
Many commentators encourage making reservations a couple of days in advance and being flexible. Help me resolve that with the stories of 000,000s of people using the trail a year; with most places along the way having only a few single rooms (health reasons, I need a plug at night); with places saying they do not take reservations. (I'll choose The Zuriaín Stop Hostel, for an example.) How do I reconcile high use with limited sleeping places?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Welcome to the forum, @lwagstaff !

I need a plug at night
Almost all places will have a plug available for those who need one at night. Here are threads with "cpap" in the title or first post.

How do I reconcile high use with limited sleeping places?
There are three critical variables that must be considered in order to make sense of the contradictory statements about availability of beds:
  • Starting location
  • Starting date (month or even week)
  • Type of accommodation sought or needed
Here are two very good threads that are still valid:

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Many thanks for the above replies; very enlightening for a first-timer. I have also read the many thoughts posted on the CPAP threads. My takeaways are:
-- Plugs are in dorms (not sure why I thought otherwise....)
-- Try to keep a polite distance - and bring an extension cord
-- Develop some language cards to explain myself
-- Accept that some people may not like hearing the slight hiss that my machine makes. (Not sure how to accomodate them.)

And my biggest surprise: A number of people do the Camino with CPAPs. That's actually re-assuring in its own right.

Thanks again.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
