I am looking for a couple apps for making reservations a day ahead. Any suggestions. French Way starting Aug 29, 2024
Thanks, Brian Felker

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

Well, booking . com is the biggest hotac booking engine in the world so you need that but some smaller options too which others can advise.

Wise Pilgrim is great because it has a feature to contact the albergues via WhatsApp and composes a message for you in Spanish (or Portuguese or French depending on location).

Here's a post I made earlier this year about how to use the feature:

The Wise Pilgrim app has a feature that will compose a message for you in Spanish (or Portuguese or French, depending on the route), that makes it really easy.

You just long press on WhatsApp number.

Then you choose the date, number of people, and type of accommodation you are inquiring about.

And the message is created for you.

At this point I save the number to my contacts.

Which is really easy because all the information is already filled out.

You will be walking during one of THE busiest periods for pilgrims starting from St Jean Pied de Port, so I would recommend that you book your accommodation up to or through Pamplona before leaving home. After that you will have a better idea of the distances that you can cover each day, and there are more intermediate towns to stop in and the pilgrim traffic tends to spread out more.

Thanks so much for the tips.

I highly recommended the Wise Pilgrim App, free version from the app store. Then choose your route and it shows you all the albergues and accommodations in each village and how to reserve, it also shows distance between. Top right corner and it shows elevation. There's also an additional $6 add on which has amazing information and is like a Guide book, I'm using both starting August 31st but I've been using them for planning and booked my first night accommodations using it.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

Embrace the bed race. Start early, end early. It's the least stressful. No need to spend time on apps and the stress associated with making reservations. Spend the afternoon noon with others and enjoying the Camino instead of hunched over a cell phone arranging accommodations. The only exception is if you want to stay in Orrison. The SJPDP to Roncesvalles in one day can be a difficult start and weather can be miserable. It's a mountain pass after all.
