abandoned walking poles in Burgos?

I want to pick up some second hand poles in Burgos. Let me someone please! There must be a way!

I ended my camino in Burgos last year and so did loads of other pilgrims, judging by the packed bus station. Where do all the poles go? I didn’t have any then because I used pieces of broken tree where necessary, (wild huh?) This time from Burgos to Leon I want to give poles a go, as I don’t think they have trees on the Meseta. I’m flying in with hand luggage only.

I know there’s been many discussions on here about walking poles, here’s what I’ve discovered:

-Poles accumulate in Santiago and then presumably throw themselves lemming-like from the cliffs of Muxia and Finistere.
-Someone asked in a hotel and found a cupboard full of abandoned poles upsetting
-There’s no upcycling possible because of logisitics, which doesn’t sound logical
-there’s a free bus to a decathlon from Burgos, which sounds too much of an Olympian feat for me.

Happy to pay, make a charity donation, arrange a pick up from Burgos…(leave them by the pilgrim statue) any ideas?
I’m there Sept 6 to 7.
Not sure there’s an answer, just musing.

Good question? Probably a lot of albergues would have a collection from pilgrims before their departure home. I’m sure others will respond.

You could start messaging different Albergues in Burgos with that question and if any give you a positive response that's where you're staying.

Or edit your post with the date you're planning to be there and maybe someone will happen to see it that will be there. Maybe post in the FB groups also.

I have been in the Burgos Decathlon, and it is a long way from the center. I would imagine there's also a store/s with walking poles in the center.

There is a Base deportes shop at Calle Madrid, 19, just a 3 minute walk from the bus station in the centre.
Alternatively there is a free bus to Hypercor

Alternatively there is a free bus to Hipercor / El Corte Ingles where Decathlon is. You can get the bus on Avenida de Arlanzon Right beside Plaza mío Cid which is in the centre.

Amazing, do you mean en route, you fashion, whittle and add fabric handles?
They look fab. I quite enjoyed finding a suitable stick on the way, first time round, just found branches etc.
But the pole people seem to swear by them, but then they would I suppose.

I would be ninety by then, and I don't really plan or hope to live that long. Maybe my ashes will do a camino that year.

Yeah, I find a stick, or it finds me. If it still feels good in my hand after a day or two, then it's the one. From a China shop, I get a couple of metres of cord or twine, some pvc tape and a cheap steak knife for whittling, that I can use afterwards for cutting tomatoes, cheese etc. So about €5 or so outlay for a new stick. Sometimes (like with the ones in the photo) I manage to get them home, sometimes I give them away. Most folk seem to prefer proper hiking poles, but I don't like the rhythm of two poles or the clickety click of them, and a single stick suits me best.

well I’d be 93 so won’t promise to take them for you!

Hey, just thought I’d close this post with: poles from Bilbao. Ive arrived here and guess what? There’s a decathlon right in the centre near the river. Got my poles, rubber tips and a cover for my backpack (it’s raining, as in UK I’ve just left). I head to Burgos manana. Excited to begin next leg of my camino. Just thought I’d close this post with this info for anyone arriving/passing through Bilbao. Decathlon is amazing! Rather like this forum.
