San Fermin. How busy are albergues around Pamplona currently?

I am restarting my Camino from Pamplona, arriving Sunday July 14 at 20.45, the very last day of San Fermin. I am hoping to stay at the Albergue in Cizur Menor from the Orden de Malta, getting there before 10 pm, but obviously a bit tight. Can anyone update me whether the albergues around Pamplona on the Frances and specifically the one from the Orden de Malta are currently fully packed?

Well, "currently" is a bit of a slippery word. About a week ago they weren't too busy in that most found beds no problemo, but things can sometimes change very swiftly on the Francès, particularly between SJPP and Logroño.

From my experience walking during San Fermin in 2017, albergues in the region around Pamplona will be very full. Fortunately, that albergue in Cizur Menor is for pilgrims only, but I would arrive as early as you can to get a bed - they open at noon.

When I stayed a few weeks ago they locked the door at 9:30 at Cizur Menor, so definitely get there before that!

Some “pilgrim only” albergues are repurposed during San Fermin to accommodate Civil Guardia and similar. I’d definitely try contacting them via email or WhatsApp to verify that they will be open to the public on your intended date of stay

I hope you are not planning to walk THROUGH Pamplona during the closing ceremonies of San Fermín. Because Pamplona will be what it looks like in this photo below.

Maybe a taxi to Cizur Menor from the bus/train station where you arrive?

Thx Kate, very helpful. Since I cannot arrive earlier, I will indeed take a taxi from the bus estancion and call them before to announce my arrival!

Wow Trecile, I think I will go for this option. Not only is there a bus to Tiebas 10 min after my arrival (taxi’s at the evening of the end of San Fermin may be tight), but it is also slightly downhill and into Obanos or Puente la Reina a short starting distance. Unlike LT FIT and the 40 km with a new hip (felicidades Lee ), I had a partial new knee before 3 months and I need to test the Camino waters with it. Bypassing Alto de Perdon (as much as I like it very much) on this first day seems an upside too

Pilgrims on the Francès right now are nearly all commenting about how few people there are this year.

By the time you get to Pamplona, the July wave, that I caught sight of briefly, may have moved on.
