Apart from the obvious answer of … take a taxi… does anyone know if there are other options on how to arrive in Roncesvalles. I’ll explain. I arrive in Bilbao (airport) at 10.35am on a Wednesday. I am pretty sure that I am pushing it to get to Pamplona bus station to catch the 1pm bus up to Roncesvalles.
I have read on other sites that there are other buses that travel up that way but I can find no website for them.
Apart from the obvious taxi and the 1pm bus are there other ways, maybe via other roads/villages etc? Alternatively if there really is no other way i will post a thread nearer the time in case someone wants to share (September 18th ‘24)
Thanks a lot

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
This is the website for the local bus to/from Pamplona. By mid September there is probably only one per day at 13:30. Timetables don't usually change much but do check nearer the time.

Parachute in!!!! (You said you wanted an alternative way…). From Bilbao, your choices are through Pamplona of Bayonne. Both have limited transit options to SJPdP (see them on Rome2Rio). Express Bourricot offers private van transfers from Bayonne but they must be arranged ahead of time and your cost varies based on the number of passengers. You may want to consult the ridesharing app BlaBlaCar as you get closer as it also operates in that region, but drivers usually do not post until a few days before the needed date.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

The OP wants to get to Roncesvalles, not St Jean.

Takes “drop by” when you’re passing to a whole new level. Guess I’m resigned to a taxi but will definitely try BlaBlaCar in case. If that doesn’t work does anyone have the tel number of a reliable (not a rip you off cos you’re a solo woman) taxi in Pamplona?
Thanks a lot

Maybe keep it simple & just walk the Norte starting in Bilbao? However the bus system is very good so riding back to Pamplona should be the best bet. Another Idea is to just Start in Pamplona.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

If you aren’t incredibly tight for time, you could spend the night in Pamplona and catch a bus the next day!

Here you go:

If you reserve ahead this company will attempt to pool you with other pilgrims.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Autocares Artieda as mentioned by @Bradypus in post #2 is the only official bus to Roncesvalles from Pamplona that I know of. If you want to risk things there is also Alsa but they are only supposed to stop to in Roncesvalles to pick up passengers. They may not be able to stop you getting off there but you better not have your pack stored in the luggage compartment. Also you will have to pay the fare to SJPdP anyway. You could also go to SJPdP anyway to spend the night and then pay the fare to Roncesvalles from there the next day (or actually for the same day). That is okay (Alsa/Conde is only for international travel on this route).

Going to SJPdP first is a bit strange but maybe you want to see it or give it a go from there after all. Or maybe you would like an extra rest day after traveling before walking from Roncesvalles (Pamplona may be better for this though).

Obviously not the best option for you but perhaps it is something you may like.
