We are here in Irun, staying at Hotel Alcazar. Where do we start the Camino?

When I did it in 2019, I walked to the International Bridge (top of photo) to get pictures of the actual French and Spanish border signage.

The point next to your hotel is Zabaltza plaza: you should find yellow arrows there.
If you are not in a hurry, I can show you the way: I should be there around August, 12th... ;-)

Walk down the street until you get to the Camino.

Before you leave watch this BBC video published 14/11/2022 re the island in the Bidosa river between Hendaye, France and Irun, Spain which changes nationality every six months. You can see it from the international bridge but it is rarely visited.

Pheasant Island is Spanish for six months and French for the rest of the year. How did this happen?

I walked to the bridge on the French border the day before, asked a passerby to take a photo with the markeer in back ground.
Carried on walking in to France discovered a chocolate factory 10 minutes up the road on the left, made it worthwhile.

Start at the Cathedral. The office is around the left side and is open 9 am -3pm to get your credential stamped. Take food, water and euro coins . Buen Camino
