I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a sudden end to a dynamic working life and a premature start of the next phase in life. Not being able to trust my body and mind anymore.
Up to now I can still do a lot and I sincerely hope this will last for a long period of time. No guarantees however.
Together with other Parkinson’s patients I set up a team named Parkinson2Beat. Our team goal is to raise money to finance basic research into Parkinson’s disease. We collaborate closely with the Dutch Parkinson’s Disease Association. In this context I am doing a sponsor cycling tour through Europe. I have planned to cycle 10.000 km in 80 days.
The route I am driving is along Santiago de Compostela, Lisbon, Gibraltar and Barcelona. Via France and Italy I go to Ljubljana, Albania and Greece. I hope to arrive at Athens at September 15th. At September 18th I plan to be back home.
Around July 21 I will reach Santiago de Compostela.
