I know you probably mean well but that is not good advice. Recording the offender might cause them to get more aggressive/violent. Trying to remove oneself from the situation should be the first course of action. -
Take your phone. Make a picture or video. Show it to the police.

All pilgrims walking in Spain should have installed the "Alert Cops" app to their smartphones. This allows near immediate contact with law enforcement authorities. They will assist you in English, and your device can be immediately geo-located...
