It was time for a good stretch, so Mrs. Purky and I walked two days on the Hertogenpad again. Started in 's-Hertogenbosch on friday morning and ended in Uden saturday afternoon, with a nice B&B in the middle. I'm not sure I have ever seen so much sun in February.

@yaying we certainly got to touch the cloud - it completely enveloped us, swirling around making awesome patterns, and given a wild soundtrack by the howling wind that brought it to us

A carpet of snowdrops on yesterday's 21km walk in the Surrey Hills. Walking close to home can be good too.

We have had a very wet winter in France but days like this more than make up for it. Cool clean air, mists rising, and the crunch of leaves underfoot. A solitary deer watched us from a distance before silently bounding away into the forest.

All I can say is wow...totally gorgeous!

Each of us maybe thinks our local walks are ok...nice...but not so amazing. But when you take all the contributions here together, it's definitely an amazing show. So much beauty in the world.

A 15K wintry walk on Sunday in Minuteman Park near Boston, where I'm staying for client work.

I don't think I'm going to encounter this much snow on the Camino in May!

I added some extra distance when I dropped my cell phone into the snow and had to go back to find it . . . fortunately, it left a cellphone shaped hole and I have a good weatherproof case on it!

Hi Katherine , lovely pictures . For me it’s almost 40years ago that I walked around in Massachusetts and Rhode Island .
Two beautyful states to wander around .

Wish you well , Peter .

I was going to post some pics of the North Downs Way but the Helvellyn ones are fantastic. A great walk in summer never mind winter.

Good looking photos, thanks! On my side, weather is not cooperating, the last two days was like walking on the Route de Napoleon with a freezing wind, all my fault [totally unprepared for the elements with my almost-too-short-for-comfort U.S. Navy shorts], I will be ready tomorrow [depending on Miss Rain]. To all caminantes, buena suerte, y que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

No countryroads but citywalk for me. Doing my housecalls on foot.
The tower of the St Trudo Abey in St-Truiden. Early 1970's a big fire destroyed the upperpart .Now they replaced it with a metal construction. It can be reached by stairs and when it is not cloudy you have a wonderful view of the area.

Built originally in the 7th century and one of the most important abbeys in the Low Lands.

The modern artwork in front is a contempary interpretation of how the Saint would have looked like.

I did as nice walk a couple of days ago trying to replicate day 3 on the VDLP which is 30 km with the steep hill going up to Almaden de la Plata, not to sure about the hill although I found it very steep and hard. I ended up doing 34 km and felt rather knackered at the end.

I've been enjoying some winter sun... I've been walking (strolling) in Seville, Marbella, Estapona, Denia and the Pyrenees... but I've eaten so much I need to do some serious walking to get fit for my camino now!

Lesbrass, was it you who was looking for wide shoes, or am I as often I can be, mistaken? Your photos brighten up dark skies, though today was bright enough in Dublin.

Yes... I'm always looking for wide shoes  Since my last post I've tried New Balance, and some Salomon's in a wide... they went back the next day

Watch out for those rogue sea lions if you’re walking on the pier! ;)

:) True! Luckily this little girl was absolutely fine and it's the only incident like this ever reported. There are signs everywhere now warning not to feed the seals or sit on the edge of the pier, but people just sit on top of the signs...and still feed the seals

Beautiful day here in Dublin. I took a bus to airport to ask 2 questions of a Ryanair staff person, and then set off to walk back home. Approx 3 hours, taking it very easy. Stopped en route for a coffee and to smell the roses. About 18,000 steps, 10.6 km. I COULD set off again, but will stay home and read a bit of my newly arrived copy of I’ll Push You. 888CA927-01C2-4613-AC2A-06D3B598F858.webpB8A6C880-3467-4B3E-8CBB-C36D1FB6070B.webpC28A52F2-B14E-4B2A-9195-D17E87E32180.webp

Vineyards and Churches - where else can you be but on a pilgrim route.

This is the Pilgrims Way in South East England. It joined Winchester Cathedral with Canterbury Cathedral and then on to the Via Francigena to Rome. This is Denbies Wine Estate (www.denbies.co.uk)

Photo taken about three hours ago on my way out after reaching what I call "La Cuesta Del Sol" because as soon as I reach that point I can see the sun coming out behind the hills at sunrise. Pacific Ocean behind me at the distance [I am walking to the East]. Buena suerte with your workouts, y que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

A spur of the moment decision to do an epic walk yesterday. Not so long (about 2 and a quarter kms each way), but the first half was a very steep downhill to the bottom of a valley - and of course whomever goes down must walk up...
(Well, not necessarily. The lady with the big bamboo pole in the last pic? She was hanging with us in case someone gave out and needed to be carried - there is a hammock on the pole, and the ladies regularly end up carrying tourists up the hill, for a very reasonable cost.)

I don't know, I think tourists do. Yesterday no-one was, but then it was only us and some Burmese people, and they don't swim so much. Honestly, I was surprised the water was so clean: streams here are used for all sorts of things, from laundry to trash disposal.

Yesterday I went out with my rygga and poles and had a walk in knee deep snow. Regretting I didn´t take any pictures, I thought about it, but at the time I didn´t really want to slow down and pull out my phone. The only walk I have done today was to the gym. I was half way home when I rememberd that I didn´t take pictures yesterday, so I went back. Then I went the other way around the block.

So, is rygga a rucksack? A new day, something new learned... my walk was very short and nothing to show, except for slush.

9k.circular walk in Gelinden, couple of villages away from my place.
Again very muddy so used gps to find an alternative road.
Lovely sights...I know my pics all have different shades of brown...no exotic waterfalls...;)
And then a bit of a Meseta feeling..
And ever present...monument for our fallen soldiers.

Having spent 2 days snowed in, with fairly deep snow plus about 2.5cms of ice on top, we have now thawed out and went for a short walk round the town today. Like 'Noggin the Nog' * we sat by our great log fire. Hoping for some better weather.......
*'Noggin the Nog' was the hero in a series of childrens' books in the 1970s - ours loved them especially 'Noggin and the Ice Dragon'

Today I had another good workout, left the house after the sun was already above La Cuesta del Sol, super bright morning. I need to get hot on getting things done here, purchase my tickets, and hit the camino again!
Already then, que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

Great walk this morning and I stayed away from our friends the reptiles. Buena suerte y que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

Edit - several of these signs on my walk, on the other side of the road, there is a good/long fence to keep walkers away from the snake area.

Today I finally had the chance to meet up with our distinguished forummember @Peter Fransiscus .
We met halfway between our hometowns at Stramproy in Weert and we practically walked on the border of our mutual countries the Netherlands and Belgium.
We walked around 15 k more or less ( sometimes we had to search for the arrows and at a certain point we got lost so the circular walk became a straight line back...;) ).
No pictures to show but rest assured it was a lovely walk, the scenery was not that spectacular but the lovely company compensated this more than enough.

Thanks again Peter and Buen Camino!

ZERO - that's the number of kilometers walked this morning by Sailor. Fully dressed, backpack on, gloves on, walking pole on hand, opened the door and what did I see? Mother nature played a good one on me, the skies opened up and the cold rain was slowly coming down. On the camino I would have pushed forward and walk in the rain, not here, I just came back into my house and took a nice HOT shower. We shall try again tomorrow.

Tonight we will advance our clocks one hour [Spring Forward] and tomorrow is the unofficial start of my Spring season. These are the unofficial starts of the seasons [for me]:

-- Spring starts when we advance the clocks one hour in March [tonight].
-- Summer starts on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day.
-- Autumn starts on the first Monday of September, Labor Day.
-- Winter starts on the last Friday of November, Day after Thanksgiving.

Those are my important dates. No pares de caminar, la luz de Dios alumbra su camino.

Dry and crispy over here. It's the fire season, when people clear by burning. So the walk to the pagoda has been transformed. But already there are green shoots. And nearby the flower fields are still very green. Today the next-door neighbors have parked their oxen and cart for the evening right near the path. I am so fond of these gentle beasts: they are unflappable, and very soft-eyed.20180313_151929.webpIMG_8861.webpIMG_8862.webp

Sunny and dry over here.Drove over our language and regional border to the Walloon part. Roclenge sur Geer is a small village from where different circular walks start.
The rain of the last days left the countryroads so saturated that I decided to use my gps on cellphone to find plan B.
Second part of the walk was on higher ground...more climbing but dry.
14k and some serious climbing.Tired but happy. And an encounter with a not so nice dog.

You walked that path with all that water ??

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Already then, let me try this post again.

Very productive walk yesterday. Cool morning, followed by the much needed rain in the late afternoon. No walk this morning due to rain. Good day to relax. Making a lot of progress with my training, will try again tomorrow, all depends on Miss Weather.

To all caminantes currently heading to Santiago de Compostela, animo, la luz de Dios alumbra su camino.

Thank you Miss Annie for the link to the Pushwalla Oasis area. Good luck, y que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

Dry and crispy over here . . .
Miss VN, in your last photo I see a tree surrounded with sticks . . . I saw the same thing during port visits to Thailand. Are those sticks used in any type of construction or for agriculture? Just wondering. Muchas gracias, y que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hope you took your snorkel for the wet part of the walk, Sabine!

Yes, @Sailor ,They're bamboo poles that are used to support plants, being stored like that for when they'll be needed next. (BTW, this is a very nice new avatar you have!)

Buen camino de la vida, everyone! May Miss Weather be kind to all...

Thanks Miss VN for the info. The avatar is a photo of a magnet on our refrigerator, you can see this thing from the moon! Que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

Yes, Sailor, you caught my attention straight away! I am just thinking about a change of avatar myself. Ha! A change of avatar, indeed. Far from avatars were we reared!
