Semana Santa is a marvelous time to be on the Camino-festivals, celebrations, processions, special masses and services all along the Camino. Every evening ask the hospitilaire what's happening in the place where you may be stopping andd go! My most pleasent Easter experience was in Cirauqui a small village where the hostel remained open to allow us to participate in the procession as all the statues of the church were carryed around the village lit by car lamps powered by car batteries, stopping under the windows at the homes of the frail and elderly before continuing on- a moving experience in real piety. . Easter is spring watch for the vinyards awakening, fruit trees blooming, wild flowers galore, town and village home gardens, can you imagine hillsides of blue lobelia or houses covered with wisteria? There will be an increase in the number of people-not all pilgrims - a credential and a backpack makes for a pleasant and cheap vacation - there will be tourigrinos but that's part of the experience.
