Avoid this albergue if you can. Found bedbugs in my bed this morning. Some other bed also showing signs of bedbugs presence. Washing and drying all my clothes now and hope to be on my way soon.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Oh dear, very bad luck - it is a horrible experience!

Did you report the problem to the hospitalero, and what was the response? If you did not report it, then you cannot expect them to take any action - if you did and they responded appropriately, then please do not defame the place. Even the cleanest, best run places can get bedbugs. It only needs one bedbug travelling in someone's bag for the problem to start.

Hope you are following the recommendations to get rid of the bedbugs in your clothes and pack - normal washing and drying will not. Everything you can (even woollens) put DRY into a commercial dryer (at a lavanderia autoservicio) at 46degrees celsius or hotter for at least 10 minutes. Pyrethrin spray (available from garden stores) for anything you cannot put in the dryer.

I can't find the thread on getting rid of BB anymore ...Was wondering what steps to take with a down filled sleeping bag should I come across them?

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
@domigee I put my dry down sleeping bag into the dryer on 45 degrees celsius for 30 minutes - and it was fine! Along with every other thing including my merino clothes and even my internal dry stuff-bags (made out of nylon). The hardest part was finding an autoservicio lavanderia with a big dryer. I did not think the normal domestic ones would be big enough to ensure the heat gets properly distributed, particularly as I did my sleeping bag as well.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Oh brilliant, thank you Kanga!

And my silk things were fine put dry into the dryer too.

PM @C clearly, @domigee--she'll likely know where the thread is, or if not she can tell you what to do.
To the rescue!

Here is the thread with the de-bedbugging summary by @SYates . It is quite hard to find in the Resources, and impossible for me on my phone.

That summary is written from the perspective of coming home from the Camino. However, the facts and the methods can be used at any time. Remember that this is just a risk-reduction exercise, and we're talking about a nuisance and not a life-threatening condition!

I don't carry a down sleeping bag (for the obvious reason), but agree with Kanga's point about putting the dry bag into the dryer. That is quicker and more effective for de-bedbugging of all items. It would also be less destructive of delicate fibres/down, than tumbling the wet material.

Join the Camino cleanup. Logroño to Burgos May 2025 & Astorga to OCebreiro in June
Thank you C clearly!
I may yet review the down sleeping bag option

I told the hospitalero about the bedbugs when he arrived after 8 am. He was very young - a student perhaps? - and did not speak English at all. He looked under the mattress and found a live bug. I understood that he'd call someone to report the problem. I looked at other beds and found most of them with the signs of bedbugs - blood stains and black spots. Later when I arrived in Tui, the hospitalera at the Xunta de Galicia albergue sprayed my backpack and put it in garbage bag until the next day. She also told me that this had been an ongoing problem with the albergue in Rubiaes - many people arrive from there bitten. I just wanted to warn others. It's not pleasant experience. This is my forth Camino and only my first encounter with the bedbugs, so I guess I'm not doing too badly;)
