Hello, has anyone been to the Sahagun street market. Do you know if they close promptly at 2:00pm (I'll be walking there on a Saturday). What kind of stands/boothes are there (food, cheese, vegetables?) Thank you.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

I was there in May, yes there are large fruit and vege stalls. The market wraps itself around the square.
A lot of them were clothes, shoes, bags though, nothing for a pilgrim. I don't know what time it finished though as I was gone before that.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Most Spanish markets are at their best and most vibrant in the mid to late morning and start closing up after lunch, early afternoon.

I haven't been to the market in Sahagun, but I expect probably the usual mix of everything from pig's heads to cheeses to underwear.

Googling for Saturday market in Sahagun brings up times. 9.00am- 2pm
However ., I agree with Flog above. I’ve arrived in time in other places to find that anyone selling pulpo is cleaning their equipment well before closing time. You might be lucky picking up a pair of socks or undies but even churros were finished early. 😢…. (I haven’t been to the Sahagun market tho )….

I hope you can make it earlier and enjoy it to the full without any rush.
Buen camino.

The market closes very promptly. The traders consider themselves as entitled to lunch (Almuerzo) as any other hard working Spaniard. If you’re there in time you’ll be able to buy anything you might want from the local Queso de oveja to some splendid Chinese made lacy (nylon) underwear; spares for your tractor or a pair of knock-off trainers.

If you’re too late for the market just follow the last traders to their lunch destinations though you may have to wait while they’re seated first

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Thanks Anamiri, yes I'm actually arriving on a Saturday and was hoping to get some fresh fruit - then taking a rest day on Sunday. Thanks pilgrim!
