luggage transport

Time of past OR future Camino
June 2025
Can I have my luggage transported three days ahead? Or just always to the next stop? I have shoulder issues so can't carry a full pack, but would like to carry a few days at a time so I don't have to deal with the transfers daily. But so far I haven't seen anything other than transfer to my end of day location.
First Camino planned for June 2025, French way. Will spend a week prior and a week after travelling so I'll have a small backpack to carry daily and one piece of carry on luggage to transport.
Thanks so much!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
You can have your luggage forwarded to a location further than a typical daily stage, although you will need to pay extra for that. The bigger challenge is that your accommodation will need to store your stuff until you get there, which would be a big pain for them, as they would need to find space and be responsible for it.
Probably best to either carry your own or do a daily transfer. You could carry your own on a shorter day and opt for luggage transfer when the terrain is more challenging or longer.

Although I’ve never shipped a bag ahead more than a day, @auburnfive makes a good point regarding an albergue accepting your bag and being responsible for it for three days. So often when I’ve arrived at an albergue, my pack has been waiting for me right there in plain sight near the checkin counter. Pretty exposed to the public if left there for any length of time.

I know that it might seem like an imposition right now, but the process of bag transfer is easy and requires minimum effort on your part. Your transported bag is going to be near where you check in. Grab it and you’re done. I’ve been very successful using WhatsApp to contact the carrier for my next day pickup with delivery location information. Drop your bag off the next morning most likely where you picked it up and off out the door you go. So, as there might be something you want that particular day or for the next day, like rain gear, you’ve got it at your fingertips. Buen Camino!

Are you going all the way to SDC? You're planning to carry enough for 3 days, those 3 days really will more than cover your clothing needs for the entire Camino as long as you wash your clothes daily. You can cut that to 2 days worth of clothes really and be all set and carry less weight.

Since you need clothing for after the Camino why not just ship it to Casa Ivar? He will store it for you.

You can send the carry on bag directly to Santiago before you start the Camino. If you are starting in SJPdP I highly recommend using Express Bourricot.

If you will be starting from somewhere else in Spain you can send to Casa Ivar via the post office.

The only way that I know of to send something ahead by a few days, and have it stored, is to send it from post office to post office, but that would be much more hassle than shipping it daily.

Deal with it daily. Why complicate the process? To many variables that could impact a three day plan. The morning after you send things ahead is when you realize you should have kept something.
