Ride share Shuttle from Biarritz Airport to SJPdP Sept. 11th, 2024

For those interested in sharing a ride to get to your starting point or any other location along the Camino.
Time of past OR future Camino
CF, Sept - Oct 2024
Hello, everybody.

I've booked an Express Bourricot shuttle from Biarritz Airport to St.-Jean-Pied-de-Port on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 11:10 A.M. (11h10). Since I'm the first to do so, I'm provisionally on the hook for the entire cost of the trip (€130.00), though I've only been charged €19.00 so far.

Is anyone else interested in this shuttle at this time/date? There's still room for 7 more people, and if the shuttle's full, each of us would only pay €19.00. The trip takes approximately 1 hour. Even if I'm ultimately the only one, it's still less expensive than taking a taxi (estimated at €170 - €200), and it gives me time to kick around SJPdP for the afternoon and check the place out.

At this time of day you can still get to SJPDP by train via Bayonn without stress and for a fraction of the price

True and true. But as someone who has visited SJPDP several times I would suggest that two or three hours is probably enough to get a good feel for the place. A pleasant small town but not a huge amount to see and do. Certainly not enough to make me pay more than €150 on top of the public transport price to get there a couple of hours before the train.

I’ve express bourricot twice. Once I was first to book then 3rd to book . Each time the mini bus was full by the date. No stress straight out of airport to waiting minibus.

That's been the reports I've heard from many people. It's not a huge deal if I'm alone, but since I'm walking alone anyways, it'd be nice to start off by meeting a few of my fellow peregrinos the day before I start.

I'm aware of that, but the "without stress" part of your message ain't necessarily the case. The last time I took trains in France, one was canceled so my wife and I had to "double up" on the remaining train (cramped standing room only, even though we paid for seats), the next train was late and then stranded us short of our destination by 200km, the train put on afterwards took three hours to arrive at the station we were stranded at, and then it had electrical failures halfway through the remaining part of the journey, requiring yet another train (this time an intercity) to pick us up in the middle of nowhere and get us to our final destination, four and a half hours later than intended and almost too late to gain access to the hostal we were booked into.

My wife suggested the trains instead of a cheaper and faster regional flight. I was quite frosty to her for the next 24 hours or so.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
There is a direct bus from Biarritz Airport to Bayonne trainstation (don't know the price, but it will be cheap, it is only a few minutes) and at 14.20 you can take the train to SJPdP, costs € 11,60. The trainride (one hour) is really spectaculair, the drive by car takes you along many, many round-abouts ...

That's okay. My city's got 'em. I like round-abouts.  ;-)

You’ll be unlucky to be on your own and EB are always advertising their services. Whilst this forum is very active - and a great source of long-standing experience - most of us here are as tight as two coats of paint and would be on the train.

You might try one of the Facebook forums where the wide-eyed innocents who don’t regard every euro as a prisoner hang out.

You are travelling on 11 September? More than a month away and in peak season for departures from SJPDP. A bit early to be worrying that the bus isn't fully booked.
I wouldn't be surprised if they have to add a second shuttle. September is BUSY!

The OP was informational, not me being "worried." I'll be using the shuttle regardless.

Buen Camino.
