An old variant of the Ignaciano

Decided to change it completely and added your track as an alternative.

I think it is much better this way and as I'm planning on not goint through the valley, makes more sense to exit to the east.

Between Sarassa and Sarasate I followed a disused railway line. It went through excavated hill, followed by a viaduct. Even then, the walls of the hill were crumbling down and the viaduct had big holes in the structure.
Later I learned that Camino Ignaciano used to follow this railway but was then rerouted for safety reasons.
Unless repairs have been done since, I imagine it is impassable now.

I am NOT doubting you but that seems quite a long way from the Camino Ignaciano! It doesn’t pass through Pamplona, but Logroño quite a bit to the west.

I know. I remember it because I thought it weird. It was gr 20/21/sth. Perhaps a branch going to Javier? It was on a map of hiking trails around pamplona which I procured from its tourist office.

Very interesting. I wonder is there an account of setting up the [now Camino Ignaciano] route. It’s only about 20 years old (in one sense). The guide by Father Jose Luis doesn’t give much detail - but surely he would know!

I have learned that this is called “link rot.” Seems to be a huge phenomenon. Wikipedia has links to a lot of studies that have tried to quantify it. All of those links are currently active.

p.s. I have moved the Ignaciano discussion out of Paulo’s Viejo thread and created a separate Ignaciano thread to keep things easier to follow.

That is an ancient thread indeed. I learned that gronze already existed in 2007! And it reminded me of Peter's excellent, but sadly no longer existing, site of historic pilgrimages.

Slightly tangential, but I met a guy working in a hotel when I walked the Ignaciano who told me of doing the Javierada....quite commonly done by him and his friends by walking for 24 hours! It is evidently very popular. There is a lot online about it.

I've heard of this massive group pilgrimages, we have them here too. Not my cup of tea.
