Botafumeiro back in place in the cathedral

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Yay! Thank you so much for announcing this. I had so hoped it would be repaired in time to maybe swing when I'm in Santiago de Compostela. ❤️🔔❤️🔔❤️🔔❤️

A peregrina on another site (Camigas facebook group) reports that she attended the noon mass today and the botafumeiro was hanging, but a sign at the door said it was still out of operation.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
This is all very heartening news as I sit in a cafe in Muxía waiting for the 15:15 bus back to Santiago for the weekend (pro tip: do not book the 15:15 bus unless you enjoy sitting in a cafe for 5 hours after checking out of your albergue.) Even if it’s not operational any of the Pilgrim Masses over the next few days, it would be nice to at least see the physical object in the cathedral.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
PS - A Camino friend who is attending the noon pilgrim mass today just sent me this photo of the Botafumeiro in place.
A friend watched the complete team of tiraboleiros giving it a full test swing late last night on the webcam when the cathedral was closed and more work had been done on it.

Unrelated to the botafumeiro: did you have to sit at the cafe for 5 hours to hold your spot on the bus? I was hoping to take the 15:15 out of Muxia but spend time at the sea until around 14:00. (As long as I have a ticket; if I didn't have a ticket booked ahead, I'd wait at the cafe, too!)

Message posted recently on the APOC Facebook group. Sent to me by a friend in Santiago

"So I'm posting this on behalf of Tom Labuzienski who is currently volunteering at the Pilgrim's Office.
As you all know, the botafumeiro has been reinstalled in the cathedral and everyone is anxiously awaiting for it to start swinging again. According to information shared by the pilgrim's office staff with Tom and other volunteers, it will be AT LEAST another week before the government and safety organizations test and approve the installation. So a little bit more patience is required!"

I've seen some speculation that the Botafumeiro might be back in use for the Corpus Christi celebrations this weekend. Seems that will not be the case.

I too bought my bus ticket in advance, but I was waiting at the cafe instead of walking by the sea because there were pretty severe winds in Muxía yesterday and being outside for more than five minutes at a time was pretty uncomfortable,
not to mention hazardous (and that was in the center of town; I can’t imagine what it would have been like closer to the water!)

But back to the bota: Bummed I won’t see it in action this time, as I somehow missed it in the three or four masses I attended during my first post-Camino visit to Santiago two years ago (which was more time I’d spent at mass in years, probably ever). Guess I’ll just have to wait until my next Camino in 2026. Maybe the third time will be the charm.

A message posted on Facebook a few minutes ago by Johnnie Walker.

"BOTAFUMEIRO WILL BE USED FROM 10 JULY 2024.

The Pilgrims' Office in Santiago is informing tour groups who make regular bookings that the Botafumeiro will return to regular use one 10 July 2024.
This follows a period of repair, trials and inspections by the authorities."

Apologies if this has been answered already. The Botafumeiro will be back in use as of July 10. That's a Wednesday. Isn't it only in use on Fridays (and special religious days)?

It is no longer routinely used on Fridays. Only on the special occasions named on the cathedral website or if it is paid for privately. Tour groups often pay to have the Botafumeiro used during their visits. The message is that it will be available for use from 10 July. Not that it will be used on that day.
