Accommodation during El Camino de Santiago survey

Hi everyone!
I am Lauren a junior UX researcher passionate about El Camino, I would like to see if anyone would be interested in sharing their feedback in a short 5min survey about their past experience! All data is confidential and anonymous.
This is a research focused on those that did El Camino de Santiago by walking in the last 6 years and were in charged of arranging their own accommodation.

Suggestion : there is no El Camino. There are many different Caminos and Vias throughout Spain and European countries that lead to Santiago de Compostela.

I agree with SabsP : it is unclear if you only refer to the Camino Frances. I have looked at your questions and you cannot specify which camino you walked. It makes quite a difference if you walk the Frsnces or for instance the Primitivo

Suggestion: question regarding how to contact overnight lodging could be improved by adding WhatsApp as an option. This is frequently the best way to manage accommodations.
Question: If you actually booked in advance is contradictory, there is no no need to answer question if you did not book in advance.

Hi Lauren,

I hope you will take my comments as constructive, since you say you are a junior researcher. There is a danger in coming to a group of people who are passionate and very knowledgeable about the Camino, and doing a survey!

My immediate reaction on reading your post raised more questions (and even suspicions) than answers. I had no idea what an UX researcher might be, so started with Google. That leads me to believe this is rather like market research survey, so that someone can determine if a certain product would be wanted. Only by reading the survey did I conclude that the potential product seems to be a live accommodation booking service.

Not only are there different routes of the Camino de Santiago, there are effectively totally different experiences if you distinguish between seasons and route sections. The experience of finding accommodation on the last 100 km of the Camino Frances during the busy periods is totally different from the experience elsewhere or in different months. The survey doesn't recognize this, so any answers will be misleading. (It is like the statement "The busiest time of year on the Camino Frances is July and August." That statement is next to useless by itself.)

There was a question "Overall how did you find the process of getting your accommodation sorted." The middle answer was "Some dificulties found. I had a challenging time finding accommodation most nights." These sentences are not compatible - "some difficulties" does not equate to "most nights.

What does "in advance" mean? Before going to Spain? One week in advance? One day?

Anyway, those are my comments. I wasn't able to answer the questions because they didn't seem to reflect my recent experience on the Camino. I can imagine they might better reflect a particular sub-group of Camino walkers, but that is probably what you should define more carefully at the start of your research.

Agree with the above comments. It was hard to answer (confusing) questions and was unable to submit my comments.

I am an engineer, not a psychoanalyst, so I just applied my general experiences over my last 12 varied Caminos, and I found the questions easily answered with just a bit of hesitation on 2 of them. Like Camino days, just take the questions as they come and try not to read anything else into them.

I got confused by the third question. You have included directions about what camino you wish us to report upon in question 2, not in some preamble. And then question three you suggest we can choose several responses about how many people we walked with. Surely if we are only going to report on one camino, there can only be one answer to that.

Even though this shook my confidence in your ability to construct useful questions with unique answers, I did look at the rest of the questions. I found it full of spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and logical difficulties.

Take this question: 'Did you book your accommodation in advance or on the same day?'. It might demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding about how people actually walk the camino. For me, booking something in the morning is booking in advance. Only when I walk to an albergue without a booking do I consider that I haven't booked in advance.

This question is typical of several: 'Whether you chose mainly public "albergues" or private accommodation. What was the main reason for choosing one or the other one? Chose as many as you wish'. If you ask about the main reason for doing something, offering the option of choosing several is simply illogical. In addition, the first 'sentence' seems to be a fragment. In addition to that, the punctuation of that fragment might give the impression that all albergues are 'public', which doesn't reflect what I understand to be the range of accommodation ownership arrangements.

I think more work was needed on most aspects of this survey before making it public. Even basic proof-reading would have detected errors, leave aside matters related to question construction.
