Help with shoes for someone with big feet....

Hi eeryone, I was wondering if anybody had some help for someone with big wide feet?
I take a size 15 US shoe normally, and i also have a 4e wide foot. This really hampers my selections.

I have checked as many sites as i know of, and no Joy. If anybody has a link or help, that would be great.

Also New Balance carries widths and large sizes. Go to the website to look. My husband wears this brand almost exclusively and likes the Fresh Foam trail runners for Caminos.

He wears Lowa brand Renegade boots for winter or mountain hiking.

I have 4E large feet and finally found the solution for me a few years ago, Keen Newport H2 trekking sandals - they do up to size 17.

Now, if I could only find something for winter!!!

Altras Lone Peak have a very wide toe box and are really comfy for me in my axtra large wide feet.

Altras Timps also have that same wide toebox and some sizes have wide widths, too. My size 14 wide feet are very happy in them, though they are notoriously not long lasting (good for one camino only!)

Consider Merrell Moab mid boots or Danner.

REI in the US is a great resource, with retail and online options; and Merrell has its own online store. I have yet to see many wide shoes at the Merrell retail stores.

Just as an FYI, in 2018 walking the Camino del Norte, I ran into a serious footwear problem. One pair of shoes I brought with me was too tight in the toes for the long sometimes steep downhills on the del Norte, and my other pair pf shoes blew out near Po. I wear 12 1/2 or 13 US (47-48 euro) size depending on the shoes. Finding anything larger than a 45 was very challenging!
I wasted a day looking around Ribadesella and Llanes. Finally decided I had to go either to Oviedo or Santander. Took a train to Santander and in the Decathlon sporting goods store there they had 3 pairs of shoes that seemed to fit me. Thank goodness that pair I bought in Santander lasted all the way to Fistera.
I would suggest that whatever shoes you have work equally well on flat, uphill, and downhill, and take a 2nd pair with you, because based on what I saw, I doubt if you will find size 15’s (what would that be, a 53 or 54 metric? You might have to go all the way to Barcelona or take the ferry from Santander to Plymouth to find shoes in that size!

Hola @Glade, I simpathise with your problem. Whilst my own feet are not as large as yours I had to buy a replacement pair of street shoes (not trekkers or trainers) in Europe. It was very difficult.
You do not advise your country location but I think you might have to go to an online supplier (REO?), or in a major city - in the US, Canada, UK or Australia - find a shoe retailer that specialises in those +++ sizes.

Thanks everyone, and i live in Australia. I have found shoes online in other countries that go to size 15 US, but the same brands online store only go to about 13US here. Maybe they thing us aussies only have small feel lol.

Maybe call your local university basketball team equipment manager and ask where
some of the players obtain shoes.
The big guys have big feet.
My 15 year old neighbor wears size 18 US shoe, is 6 feet 4 inches tall, and is still growing.

But they aren't wide, he is 4E (as am I). Their guide only goes up to 2E.

My dad's feet are the same size as yours. I introduced him to new balance and he loves them!

I walked two 800 k caminos in New Balance 4E running shoes no problem. On the last one i made the mistake of buying New Balance fresh foam runners with vibram soles. They were not as supportive as my running shoes nor were they the same size. I purchased inner soles with arch supports in Pamplona.They were much smaller despite it saying the same size. I lost a toenail. The vibram soles lasted well but i wouldn't buy them again for their lack of support.

Greetings from a fellow Aussie with big feet.
I wear US15/EU49-50 shoes in a wide fit.
In 2019 I walked the Frances in Keen boots.
They were effective but relatively bulky and heavy and my feet were always ‘hot’.
This year I’m walking again in September.
Unfortunately, I cannot find a Hoka to fit me, they are too narrow in the toe area.
I recently got some Altra Lone Peaks and found them to be quite a comfortable fit. Width is really good. Length is OK and whilst I contemplated getting a US16, I stuck with the size15.
I found the Lone Peaks did not give me much protection on stony trails. I then put some Superfeet orange insoles in and whilst they don’t give complete coverage underfoot in the toebox, things improved but I was still not completely convinced they were the best option.
With some trepidation, I then got a pair of Altra Olympus 5 shoes and these proved to everything that I needed. I’m convinced these will do the job.
I think either of the Altras would be fine but for me the extra padding on the Olympus clinched it.
In Australia you can source these large sizes from the Altra Running online store.

I don't know if you are a man or woman, but size 13 is not that big. Were you teased about your feet as a child? This sounds like a psychological issue that is probably beyond the purview of this forum.

I was not teased about it as a child. I just sometimes receive comments about it that are uncomfortable for me.

Also, yes, 13 is a large size for someone who is 5’7” with an average frame.

It’s a not-so-uncommon sentiment shared by others in positions similar to my own. So, it is not unequivocally just an idiosyncratic feature of my psychology.

I am a woman with big feet. I get it! As a child I was teased for my long toes, and wished that they could be cut off. I feel like my feet look manly. I often have to wear men's shoes. But, they don't affect how I walk, which is the most important thing on the Camino.
Embrace your larger feet - they give you a better "understanding."

I do maintain that the forum is not the place for complex psychological issues.
