Hi! I started the camino from Porto on Monday. Since yesterday my knees have been giving me terrible pain and one of them is also swollen.

I’ve decided to take today off (and depending on how I feel I might also rest tomorrow) but to continue I will need to find hiking poles to distribute the weight a bit.

It seems very unlikely that I’ll find them before Ponte de Lima but might be worth a shot, perhaps someone has gone through a similar situation or might want to get rid of theirs. Or should I just find a taxi to take me to a bigger city where I have better access to equipment, pharmacy etc.? Any help is appreciated!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Hi there! Not sure this will help because the terrain is likely different than what I experienced last week on the frances. But I looked for branches on the trail and used them. Actually I used branches several times cuz mine were taken??!!! Lol. They worked fantastically for the hills and balance Also check the bars (yes bars sometimes sell them) and hostels for leftover ones. PS: I had a hard time saying good bye to my sweet branch poles :)

Any pole will do. I found bandaging my knees helped a lot. Rest for a couple of days and going to a bigger place may help to find what you need. Pharmacists In Spain are wonderful and a great help too
