Hola Dennis - I can tell you that this was one of the hardest "off-track" sections of the Camino. About the only other place that came close was the section about 1 or 2 km west of Atapuerca. There was supposed to be "cyclist" detour, but unfortunately I missed it and ended up carrying, lifting my bike up and over some very large rocks - it took 35-45 mins to cover less than 800 metres. Fortunately I had scheduled two days in Burgos - I needed them to recover.
@Saint Mike II - Glad you made it. It was hard enough getting my butt up the hill, I can't imagine what it was must have been like pushing a bike along too.
Don you would probably have found they had a van waiting at the top with lunch etc. I recall seeing a number of these groups with just water whilst I had 10kg on the back.
