Winter albergue list

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Surprised to see St Anton in Castrojeriz on the list though as pretty sure thats shut in the winter.
I passed San Anton about 10 days ago. Yes it was open!
When talking to the hospitalero he said, he does not know, how long he will stay there and keep it open. His fear was not to have enough firewood for heating.

Some places are (deliberately or not) absent from that list, for multiple reasons, so it's worth combining it with a different list that includes opening dates such as this great Belgian one (in French) :

https://verscompostelle.be/cohebege.htm & https://verscompostelle.be/Document/frances.pdf

It includes more than just Albergues, but also some info about hotels and other accommodation that may be open in winter. Caveat -- it's an early 2022 list, and was occasionally out of date even late last year.

Also, nearly all of the Xunta Albergues in Galicia are open all year round, and are not on the list.

Having said that, last year that Winter Albergue list was invaluable on the eastern half of the Francès -- Availability of more options than listed there is more frequent the further West you go.

In any case, whether you reserve or not, it's important to telephone ahead as well as to actively consult locals and other pilgrims on availability, as sometimes some bed can be available that's not found on any list.

It is a useful list for sure. I have walked 4 times in November/December. This list has alot of the open albergues. But no site is 100% accurate. I use this list and check out Gronze, and Wise Pilgrim and Buen Camino. (I know that Camino Ninja is back now also). But just because a list says an albergue is open it doesn't mean it is. No site has all the possible places to stay either. I always call ahead. Last year I stayed in at least 4 albergues that showed on Gronze open all year that the owners told me that they were closing within a week. One told me that the day I was there was the last day they were going to stay open.

Yeah, and there are also some all-year private places that take their 2-week Winter break without necessarily advising the volunteers who maintain these list resources.

Though conversely, also some private places that close for Winter, and yet still take in individual pilgrims (but no other customers) on a case-by-case basis.

Finding where to sleep on a Winter Camino is a dynamic relationship with multiple people along the Way.
