I know how this Peregrino felt. There were several days on the VdlP in mid-August that I was probably in the same condition.
I actually made it to Salamanca two days early and only walked...no transport.
Somehow, I doubled the planned distances without actually being aware of it.
That is textbook disorientation.
 
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
So easily done. We had a French pilgrim of about the same age collapse at Rabanal. He'd walked from Astorga in 29 degree heat. Got him rehydrated and then quizzed him on how much he had drunk that day - two espressos, no water . . . .
