Pope to visit Santiago early August 2022

I posted a awhile ago about walking a slow camino. I'm set to start June 25 or so and at 40-45 days that would put me into Santiago at or close to the Pope's visit. It may seem counter-intuitive to those who do not like crowds, but . . . well, it's the Pope. And it's the Pope in Santiago at the end of a pilgrimage which is pretty much a Catholic phenomenon. So, the Pope in Santiago at the conclusion of a Camino. I'm not sure it can get any better than that. I just went on booking.com and booked the nights of Aug 7 and 8. Prices are already high in August anyway--I imagine they will go up considerably given the Papal visit. I would think at some point it will be like trying to get a room in Pamplona the second week in July.

…according to this newspaper article out yesterday:
Good news for those who enjoy crowds. Even when the then Pope came to visit Ireland in 1979, I eschewed the option of going to be one of 1 million plus attendees at the Papal mass. Just not my scene. For many reasons, not least tactical, or as they say, logistical. Very seriously, for those for whom it will be a dream realised, I wish you well. Follow Bob Howard's example, and book well ahead for lodgings.

…according to this newspaper article out yesterday:
I am not sure, if it will only be a pleasure for the pilgrims. In 2017 I witnessed a visit from Pope to Fatima on the sidelines. The police and the military are on high alert throughout the country. Many border crossings closed and otherwise many strict controls. The fact that many "hostels" were fully occupied by normal tourists should only be mentioned in passing.
buen camino Hans

That’s wonderful news to me, on many levels - and perhaps one for these times is the prospect of the wide embrace this visit offers the broad pilgrim community from a spiritual ecology perspective. May hope spring in troubled times .
Thanks for sharing Ivar.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
In one of the Facebook groups someone implied that he would visit Santiago next week, after the World Youth Day festivities in Lisbon. Has anyone heard of this?

Seems pretty unlikely. If there were announced plans for a papal visit the local Spanish news websites would be full of it. Unless someone has secret inside information they have let slip on Facebook!

Yes, I thought so as well, but as I say, it was mentioned in a FB post. Possibly someone had confused it with this announcement of a visit in 2022.

Hello, I'm not doing the Camino (yet), so I don't know if this question fits in this forum... But I'm looking for advice and I think this is the best place. I'm planning a three or four days trip...
