Ponferrada to Santiago (September 2016)
One more sleep and I fly out to Madrid.
I don't know what to do with myself. All I can think of is my departure tomorrow. I am overjoyed, nervous, stoic, slightly freaked out... I have not done this type of trip ever and the last time I flew overseas was in 1987. I only ever traveled with others and now I am going solo, leaving my husband home with the kitties. My bag is all packed, but I know I will take it apart and repack it once again.

I am so looking forward to setting foot on the Camino and join the millions of pilgrims who have trod this route over the centuries before me.

One more sleep!

Have faith, all will be well. Traveller there is no path. Paths are made by walking,(Machado). How lucky you are to be starting off. Just take it easy, smile, use Spanish if you can, learn some if you can't. Look after your feet. If you start to get a blister change to your sandals. Peregrinos are mostly a good lot! Buen camino.

Five hours before my flight. I'll be heading out to the airport soon.
My priest had a really nice blessing for me at the end of the morning service.
All the jitters and butterflies were calmed after that. I am ready to go.

Wonderful, Claire!

And don't miss the pilgrim's blessing at the end of the evening mass in Roncesvalles--it will inspire and steady you. (Well, it did that for me and I'm not even Catholic--it is deeply moving, one of the highlights of the Camino).
Bon voyage, and buen camino!

Here is a pic from 2016, I love the simplicity of the sketch map and directions "1 km climb up, 5km flat, 5km down". I wonder how the prices are now?
