I made my own gaitors!

Having gotten all my gear together, read the forum & guides, weighed all my stuff a bunch of times - I didn't know what to do with myself - so I embarked on a 3 day project of making my own gaitors.

They're basically the sleeves off an old rain jacket I wasn't wearing. I cut them, off, added a triangle of fabric at the bottom so they'd go over my boots (Solomon ultra light..) then sewed in some cord from the cannibalized rain jacket to hold them below the knee... and sewed in some snaps front and back on the inside to snap to the front and back of my boots. They seem to work pretty well. a little under 3 oz all together (1.? oz each)

I hope the pics can show better.
so - say Hi if you see me wearing them - walking from Pamplona April 17th 2016

Such a really great idea....I love these sort of projects..

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I made a small modification: I took the snap off the inside front and replaced them with velcro - sewn in the gaitors along the front edge, and the other part glued on the boot at the toe (get the velcro with peel off glue). Now the front of the gaitor covers the toe area of the boot & is secured there. (kept the snaps on the back) They now weight 1 oz each!

I stopped in the pilgrim store Armería Castro.Deportes y Tienda del peregrino today, and they carry bags of wool to use on your feet. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Zb8fM4AK2qyCuGYt6?g_st=ac
