Hiking in Croatia

Preliminary research on hiking in Croatia has revealed a nine day excursion through the Velebit National Park. Accommodation is basic but free, you need to carry all supplies including sleeping gear and food. Water can be found along the way.
Has anyone done this? Or any other hiking in that country? Obviously a nice day can be had at the Plitvice Lakes, but is there anything longish-distance? Considering the Velebit trail and then continuing on minor roads to Dubrovnik. I don't mind road walking, but if there were trails that would be nicer.

I can't answer most of your questions, but I did do the Peace Walk through parts of Croatia. It was my favorite because it was so beautiful. We also stayed in Zagreb for two nights, which I loved. We went to lake Bled, which was fantastic. I want to go back. Also, Slovenia was even more beautiful.
