Getting to Somport

New Member
This is my third summer on the Camino, and I would like to start in Somport this time. Problem: I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to get to Somport from Madrid on May 7. Any suggestions? I've looked at Renfe, Alsa, and Continental schedules as a start but haven't been able to put an itinerary together. Thanks to anyone who can help. Nancy

P.S. Same message, just giving it a title this time. I'm getting the hang of this slowly.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hi nparist,

I did some looking around, and here is one option:

Madrid - Zaragoza
...by train. There are many trains each day, see http://www.renfe.es .

Zaragoza - Canfran (5 km from Somport)
...by either..

- Train (local) :
http://www.renfe.es/regionales/regionales_aragon.html

- by Bus:
http://www.alosa.es/

Canfran - Somport
... 5km walk? Taxi? :?:

Here are the sites I used to sow this together:
http://www.renfe.es
http://www.lesomport.com/ (Click, Como Llegar)
http://www.canfranc.com/ (Click, Como Llegar)
http://www.canfranc.com/accesos.htm

I hope this helps,
Ivar

Train to Canfranc, changing at Zaragoza or Huesca (you can use the high-speed AVE or the stopping train). SNCF bus from Canfranc to Somport; timetable at http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/pau_canf ... 7-5610.pdf
(you will note they do not connect :-( )

P.S. be prepared for the shock of seeing Canfranc station, one of the wonders of the railway world
http://www.canfranc.com/estacion-internacional.htm
now decaying rapidly, I'm afraid

Thanks for the info, Peter. This looks promising.
