Filming a Documentary - Camino Frances

Camino Frances
Hello,

My name is Ash, I work for a film production company in Wales, UK. I wanted to reach out to the Camino community to see if there is any interest in appearing in a documentary we are hoping to make this year in which the Camino features heavily, but not exclusively.

Some background - summer of last year a friend of mine (who had lost her husband several months previously) was dealing with crushing grief. After a discussion in which I told her about the Camino's that I wanted to walk, she immediately said that she wanted to do it, that she wished she had known about them when her husband was alive (they were big walkers/hikers/travellers). As we discussed this more, I asked her if she would be willing for me to film a documentary on this as an exploration of love, loss, grief, healing and the Camino's themselves.

To cut a long story short, she became injured during training for it (plantar fasciitis), and the date was pushed back and back until it became unfeasible last year. Then at the end of last year a baby granddaughter arrived and she has now decided to more back to her home (Ireland) and spend time with her family.

We spent hours discussing the grief she lived with and how she hoped the Camino would be a release, a re-discovery of herself as a person, a lift, and more, and the idea has stayed with me.

I hope this is not too insensitive, and /or against site rules, but we still have a great urge to make this film. If there is anyone that is considering/or doing the Camino for similar reasons and would be interested in being part of a project like this, please feel free to reply to this post or PM me.

All conversations are private and secure and no absolutely obligation to continue is in place for anyone that may want to discuss the possibility.

Thanks for you time,
Ash

Your approach reminds me of Camino Skies, a film from down under about a group walking with grief. We paralleled the group for about a week on the Meseta while they were walking and filming. I will confess to mixed feelings about the whole idea. After meeting most of the players, I could not escape the idea that while they were definitely having a healing experience, I'm not sure they would not have been better off without the film crew.
