Family of four preparing for 3rd Camino Trek

Hello All!

As we prepare for our third trek across the Camino, I wanted to get ideas and thoughts on how the Camino Frances Route has changed in the past few years. We covered the first 250 miles with our then 6 and 8 year old (2011). Then we returned with our 8 and 10 year old (2013) to over another 150 miles before getting an ankle injury (our packs were WAY too heavy). Now we will attempt our 3rd time, again, as a family with our two now being 11 and 13. We are hoping to travel from St Jean to Santiago in 36 days. The kids are excited and are prepping by hiking 5-6 miles daily with us.

I'm looking for advice on family friendly Hostels (we found everyone to be very welcoming on our other trips!), places to eat, and any general new thoughts on what we should watch for this time around! Our first pilgrimage was in the fall, our second was in the spring. This time we are hoping to travel early summer.

Thanks so much in advance!
Mandy

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I know I am not alone when I say how much I enjoyed seeing families on the Camino. It made my day.
Buen Camino

I couldn't agree more.

Buen Camino!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I too just attempted my 3rd camino - but I was surprised at the fact that my bag was still too heavy!!!
Leave everything at home except a credit card and a smile!!!
