Hi, I plan to start this Sunday the Camino Aragones, but will start already in Oloron. Has anyone passed the section between Oloron and Somport in the last days and could give an update on the state of the route? Meteoblue has warnings for avalanches in the Oloron area, not sure if this section is doable currently? https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/week/oloron-sainte-marie_france_2989569 Thanks a lot in advance for any information on the route.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Just walked Somport to Canfranc Pueblo a few hours ago! If the France side is anything like the Spanish side, expect snow depth on the trail from .3-.5 meters but melting fast. That creates a lot of wet and muddy conditions which is always an issue on the French side but can be dangerous with heavy runoffs. Even with the recent trail improvements, you might have to walk the highway at more spots than usual. If they are warning of avalanches, I’d listen to them. I’ll post my walk on the Spanish side a bit later tonight, but it was safe and enjoyable.

The photos below are from the Spain/France border looking down the valley to Oloron.

Today we have walked Oleron to Sarrance in perfect conditions. Definitely no snow or sleet.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The snow up there must be melting given the temperatures yesterday, Wednesday and today. Somport for me next week if all goes well.

A family of four arrived yesterday at the albergue and reported that the snow IS melting quite fast at the pass and what is left is much easier to walk on.

Is it really necessary to reserve the gites in France or is it ok just to arrive? I'm mainly referring to stages from Lourdes - Orolon Sainte Marie- Somport and before end of October
