Some years ago I heard about an old way to Santiago from Pamplona through Vitoria I trid to have ackowledge about it and i tried to follow the possible route. So I create this blog about it. It has been days searching in carts, fighting with the computer and going to the sites to see the way. For me has been a very gratefully experience. Unfortunatelly I´m getting old ang I suffer a hearth problem, is possible that i cannot finish this job. But I´d like to share this experience , and if it is possible that somebody could continue working in research this old route.
This is the link.

What a brilliant project !

I would love to contribute, but have nothing to add except my belief that this is a worthy investigation, which I really hope will lead to the recovery of the 'Camino Viejo'

I'am not perfect, but I'm always myself!!!
Wow, what a beautiful and solitary Camino combo that would be:
- Camino Baztan (Bayonne - Pamplona),
- Camino Viejo (Pamplona - Ponferrada),
- Camino de Invierno + Sanabres (Ponferrada - Santiago).

@navarro I think @peregrina2000 should see your post because I know she's very much into the hills and that particular part of Spain.

Very interesting. I don't have the appropriate skills (or location) but I hope someone else can help with the project. It would be fun to test out the route, although I think I would rather do that with some company. Please keep us informed.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

it is a beautiful route through some amazing landscape and monuments. I walked it in 2012. here are the links to my description (at the time, things may have changes since then) and the list of accommodation (updated after I returned). and also a link to my blog.

a warning for GR 21 from Pamplona to Irurtzun - this GR does not exist anymore and may be dangerous in a few places (collapsing sides of a part cut through a hill and a collapsing viaduct), I would suggest following N240a.

Great material, thanks. The last two links result in notifications that the page cannot be found.

I can attach the accommodation list here sometime next week.
blog is unfortunately not online anymore. I am working on a new blog but it will take some time before it's online again. I will post the link here on the forum when it's done. (this year, hopefully!)

list of more budget oriented accommodation on camino viejo (pamplona - salvatierra-agurain - miranda de ebro - GR99 - villaneuva de la nia - aguilar de campoo where it joins camino olvidado for which see ender's lists). this was last updated in 2016 so please ask around and phone ahead!

Thank you for the fantastic notes and list of accommodations! Can you tell me how many days you took to go from Pamplona to Aguilara de Campoo (I’m not sure how you broke things up from reading the notes.)

you're welcome!

I plan my days according to available accommodation, budget if possible. they also reflect if something unexpected comes up - like the stay in zamartze monastery and the climb to beriain (puerto de lizarraga).

it took me 17 days, including a rest day in miranda de ebro. (but if you have a choice, select vitoria-gasteiz instead.)

this is a link to a post I made after the return. note that I took a wonderful two days up to beriain and sierra de urbasa which is not at all necessary if you prefer to stay in the valley, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. :) https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/viejo-camino-de-santiago.7585/#post-138545.

this is a post with the links to my wikiloc tracks from miranda de ebro onwards. also read sheffield james' posts from his walk. https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...olvidado-lots-of-good-info.55175/#post-619045.
