Camino Francés in February?

I am walking the Camino Frances just now. Most of the pilgrims I meet are checking the Aprinca website for their next day's endpoint. A very valuable tool.
My son and I are starting next month in SJPDP. How busy is the trail? We are wondering if we will be walking mostly in solitude this time of year or if its common to pass other pilgrims on the trail. Also wondering if boots are necessary in the winter and if you were able to go over the pyrenees of if you had to go around.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
m2m4christ,

Welcome to the forum. You and your son must be very excited as you prepare for walking soon in February.

In February 2006 I once wore plastic bags over my socks. Ever since walking in late autumn/winter on the CF I always wore waterproof Goretex lined boots and never had a blister.

Check out this earlier but still relevant post re walking the CF in winter.

Remember you must be prepared for sleet and snow. Difficult CF stretches after storms could be; the Valcarlos route up to Roncesvalles (the Napoleon route is closed from November to April), across the Montes de Oca from Villafranca, Najera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Monte Irago and, of course, to and from O Cebreiro.

Good luck, stay safe and Buen camino to both you and your son.

I have also had some pretty horrible weather from just south of Rabanal to walking downhill in snow, than sleet, than rain from Cruz de Ferro. Not once but 3 times haha. Aren't I a lucky pilgrim!
