Specifically: no, but:Hello, people. Quick question…… has anyone walked the Camino de Madrid in late Jan / early Feb. I know it has one of the higher elevations for part of the journey. Is it viable? I have done five caminos previously as well as some other tricky unfriendly long routes.
I crossed in late April 2022 and encountered a late snowstorm. I took the steeper route on the climb and route finding was a bit of a challenge. There was about a foot and a half of snow at the top. the walk down. The north side side was easy.Specifically: no, but:
I’ve spent time in Madrid and Segovia in January, and it was properly cold.
I’ve been over the Fuenfria pass in March with decent snow and it was entertaining.
I’ve climbed in the alps and climbed in proper scottish winter - carrying a light-pack appropriate to my intended days out plus a minimum of reserve.
I wouldn’t set out over the Fuenfria in January and February, solo, carrying a Camino load.
Bear in mind that I’m now older, fatter and more aware of my own mortality than I was.
