Camino de Santiago (sept 2017)
Hi All,

I left from Burgos last Sunday. One big take away so far if you are starting bring food with you. Most of the bars in the small towns are still closed. A couple have started to open. Some of the restaurants don't open late so best to have dinner at lunch time if you can.

Thanks,
Ciaran

Spanish like their dinners after nine and normally take a largish menu del dia around mid-day. I am surprised after one week out of Burgos you did not find bodegas open in towns like Fromista and Carrion. Reb Scott recently wrote that the place in Moratinos opened this week.

Same for us Roncesvalles to Pamplona. Basically nothing open and limited water as far as we could see.

In the spirit of 'Nations divided by a common language", I'll suggest that Spanish like their dinners in the early afternoon (often a menu del dia if they can't make it home for dinner) and a light supper after nine.

That's because I was taught that there is lunch and supper and dinner substitutes for whichever of them is larger. :)
