Caminho Portuguese, Lagos to Santiago

Pelligrino

New Member
In a week I begin the Caminho Portuguese. I'll be starting from Lagos and go west till Cabo de San Vicente before heading up. In case anyone is also interested in this, I found two websites on the matter, though the latter still needs to prepare.

http://www.algarveway.com (from Cabo de San Vicente to Aljezur)
http://www.rotavicentina.com/en/ (from Ocedeixe to Porto Cabo)

The rest I'll just wing it, but hopefully I can update this thread in case anyone else is interested in having an Algarve coast starting point.

If anyone has any tidbits of info regarding the walk south of Lisboa, I'd be much obliged if it was shared! :D

Pelligrino,

Today you must be VERY excited as your Camino departure date nears.

Although i have never walked north from Portugal last December after finishing the CF I continued to Finisterre, per usual, and then walked to the Portuguese border at Tui. This involved going " backward " along the Camino Portuguese from Santiago. To go backward is more complicated than you might think; since this path is hardly well marked, searching for the famous yellow arrows pointing opposite my direction wasn't easy. Viewed backwards the arrows resembled anchors. Thus it all was a bit of a treasure hunt!

Eventually I drove to Lagos where you will begin. The Praia Camilo or Camilo beach at Lagos has wonderful cliffs which resemble the French coast at Etretat. There perched on the seaside dunes is a VERY good simple fish restaurant , O Camilo. Don't miss it !!

I look forward to following your Portuguese posts.

Have a wonderful Camino! May all your dreams come true.

Margaret
