Accommodations in Bayonne

As a first time pilrim I will be travelling from Paris to Bayonne by train on Friday, May 28th, arriving in Bayonne at 8:48 pm. I am wondering if I should try to catch the last bus to St. Jean at 9:06 pm or would it be better to spend the night in Bayonne and take the bus in the morning? If I spend the night in Bayonne, does anyone have any suggestions as to a reasonable hotel close to the train station? Or if I continue on to St. Jean is there any place that will accept a weary traveler that late at night?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
I would suggest you stay the night in Bayonne. I stayed at the Hotel Paris Madrid - as you come out of the train station it is immediately to your left, across a car park. Reasonable rates and the staff speak english and are friendly. Buen Camino, Jane

if you're looking for somewhere good to eat after you have checked in at the Hotel Paris Madrid, leaving the hotel walk across the street to your left and down a small street immediately ahead of you. Try the third kebab shop on your left - the man who runs it is a real sweetie - please tell him another pilgrim (me) says hello from Australia - he will know who I am I think as I went to Bayonne twice within two months and we had a long chat about him wanting to immigrate to Australia. Have a fantastic camino, all the best to you! cheers, Jane

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Once again, thank you Jane. We will definitely look up this place for a meal. We were just discussing the need to find a meal when we arrive in Bayonne. It sounds wonderful and we will say hi for you.
We are looking forward to getting started and soon as I am finished walking the camino I will be heading straight to your wonderful country for a short visit. So much to look forward to.

Thank you,
Daralee

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

I don't know if you need to book ahead or not, but I'm anal retentive about these things. I stayed at Hotel Ibis Bayonne Center.

It's clean, has free internet, and a nice dining room. It's just down the street from the train station and is pretty cheap, around 40 euros as I recall.

Buen Camino,
Rene
