Equipment list and opinions from recent camino

Re: Equipent list and opinions from recent camino Good stuff. I'm with you on the technical t's... They take up so little space and they dry quickly, although I get quite fed up with wearing them by the end, so tend to take a cotton one as well, just for a bit of variety.

    Backpacks again

50 litres?! Blimey! Mine was a 33 litre pack from Osprey. Very comfortable, supportive, easy to adjust and had straps at the side to compress. expensive, but well worth it.

    Ankle-support: highly important or not

I have a dodgy achilles and as a result, my calves and ankle muscles aren't what they used to be. I'd heartily recommend boots - Lightweight ones if you can find some that suit. The boots I wore for my last Camino were nigh on perfect for my needs - Nice, tailored fit, good ankle support and...

    Sleepwear??

I sleep wearing the clothes I'll be wearing for the next day. and have a shower as soon as I get to the refugio. Tis the best way, I think.

Equipment list and opinions from recent camino

Re: Equipent list and opinions from recent camino My kit list for my last few Caminos is as follows: 33 litre pack Compact sleeping bag Gore-Tex Paclite jacket 3 x technical t-shirts 3 x pairs of underpants 3 x pairs of socks Shampoo Toothpaste Toothbrush Sun cream Paper Safety pins Pen Hat...

Sleeping bag for a march camino

In cold weather, I'd heartily recommend a down sleeping bag. Mine packs down to larger than a slimline bag, but it is noticeably lighter, so if you're prepared to concede to the fact that you'll have marginally less space in your pack in order to do this... Then I'd say it's worth it.

    temperature - fleece

I recall being particularly cold on the way out of Carrion de los Condes... Brrrrrrr.

    temperature - fleece

I use a fleece with a coolmax t-shirt for the pyrenees. It stops the drops of moisture penetrating the surface and isn't as sweaty as a waterproof. Further on, I think it's probably necessary (in my opinion) in very few places, but handy to have if the nights get a bit cooler as they tend to...

    Pack Size/Model Survey

Hip belts will still help distribute the weight off the shoulders though, even if you're only carrying 6-7kgs... I've got a smaller pack that's got a hip and sternum strap.

That's my preference too... The Sigg bottles that is. Innov-8 eh? I've got some of their trail running shoes. They're fab. Ok.. When are you off, btw?

    Pack Size/Model Survey

My Paclite jacket was on sale so managed to get it for £70. Bargain. Spursfan, if you're still looking for a new lightweight pack, I've gotta say that the Osprey Talon 33 rocks... Really... It's tough, light, comfortable, well designed so it doesn't wobble about and there are attachments for...

Is 1 litre of water enough to carry?

Tis a funny one. I've got a 1l Sigg bottle and tend to get another 500ml plastic bottle and tuck it away somewhere. I use a Camelbak when I'm biking, but it tastes horrible, so would only really want to use it for short stints.

    heavy boots

I've got big Scarpas (which I love) for the UK and Meindl Softline GTX's for hotter climates, such as the Camino. They not only fit like a glove, but they're some of the nicest, most supportive lightweights I've ever worn.

    heavy boots

Good stuff! I've got some heavy duty jobs, too, but swapped them for some nice, light Meindls... Which I think I may have to marry!

    Re Umbrellas?

The reference to rosaries. If you've got a hat, a poncho/rain jacket, what is the point in having an umbrella? (bringing the thread back on topic)
  16. Minkey

    Re Umbrellas?

I don't see the point of extra things to carry. Re: Rosary beads... A) they don't take up that much space and B) I think that remark is particularly unpleasant.

    Re Umbrellas?

Surely this thread is a joke... SURELY...

    Flashlight??

Or for those near a Decathlon store, they've got a fairly comprehensive range.

    thermarest???

I've never needed a rollmat/thermarest. Leave it at home would be my advice!

    Pack Size/Model Survey

I had a look at the Revo after your suggestion, Spursfan, but there ain't much too it. It's light, I grant you that, but there's very little to stop bits inside the pack piercing you in the back! The Osprey Talon I mentioned before is light. I think I'm gonna go for it! Oh... and I whole...
