What is the descent like into Redondela? Brierly describes it as almost vertical. When researching on this forum someone said it is very, very, very steep, and caused foot problems for the rest of their trip. What do people think? One option is to walk part of the way from O Porrino, and then take a taxi. Thanks for any input.

Nothing to worry about at all….way over hyped. I walked it in March this year. Just one section of about 100 yds was very steep but that was on tarmac…..don’t worry about it at all…..a lovely walk! Buen Camino!
Thank you!

No definitely not vertical. It was not bad at all from what I recall having just done it in April.

I measured this section from my GPS track. The steepest part is about 900m long with a descent of about 125m or a grade of just over 14%. @Martin 888 has one thing correct, and which is that it is all tarmac. I have walked it twice and take it slowly. Poles help control the descent, otherwise you are putting a lot of braking stress on your ankles, knees and hips.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
My knees normally remember the very steep descents, but I had to think hard to remember doing this stretch a couple of months ago. I zig-zagged the steepest bit, keeping a good ear open for traffic.
I suspect that the tarmac surface makes this descent somewhat easier than any where there are rocky and uneven surfaces to contend with as well. I wouldn't be afraid of it, and just take it gently.

I did this a month ago. It was not bad at all. Long but not too steep. I did have a trekking pole and that helped.

There were couple other descents, I don't remember where, that were shorter but a lot steeper and I had to zig zag all the way down

We walked this in late April and it is steep and long yet very doable and beautiful. Slow and easy, poles and zig zag as needed. I didn’t find it particularly taxing.
Short drone that is not a drone video of the start of this descent.

Thank you! This makes me feel better. I think we can do it!
