Where to stay in Oporto?

I'll be spending two days in Oporto later this month before starting my Camino. I'm booked into a large international hotel for the first night (can't stay in albergue for two nights I think?) but would rather change my booking and experience a quainter, local hotel. I've tried to make an internet booking for some of the places in Briersley but it's all fully booked for Fri 20th. Can anyone recommend somewhere central and not too pricey? Thanks!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi,

I stayed at Dixos last October. Beautiful in an old world way. Close to the waterfront, restaurants and the Cathedral is just around the corner and up a connecting alleyway.

Don't have a Briersley's guidebook , so if you've already tried Dixos, here are some other links:

All the best and, don't forget to stay at the Casa da Dona Fernanda located about 30 KM outside Barcelos as you make your way toward Valenca.

Bom Caminho,

I second the vote for Dixo's. Well located, includes a very nice breakfast with a breathtaking view of the river and Gaia. Arn, I cannot believe you are getting to do this AGAIN! I am so jealous!

Thanks Portia! However, in-between emails to Dixos they became fully booked :( So now I am looking again... Suppose I can stay in my bland international hotel where I'm booked but the river area is calling me! will keep trying to find something else! Sanet

There are lots of interesting cheap accommodations in town, we stay at an old student hang out over the anchor pub right on the way, check out our blog for details... Never booked in advance and never been turned away, they have links with other places near by if needed to. Have a great walk.
