I love this thread. We get to see everyone's beauty. The world is an amazing place. Even right around the corner from where we are. (And @yaying...I come from here and it seems so 'normal'...but we know it's special, too.drool
Thank you for your kind words.I love this thread. We get to see everyone's beauty. The world is an amazing place. Even right around the corner from where we are. (And @yaying...I come from here and it seems so 'normal'...but we know it's special, too.
And I have to say...everyone else has some pretty special back yards too. Wow. Thank you all for sharing. And a special greeting to you and Marianne over there in Santiago, @Peter Fransiscus ! Your time there is very well deserved. I chuckled to see your pic from the Cathedral...that's near where I like to sit, too - I know the spot by the mason's mark.
indeed, but cant deny 'some' unpleasing part of it, the least is unpleasant someone 'living' on it.world is an amazing place
very big like, as some learners of the English language say when I ask for a degree of like!Cordes sur Ciel is a bastide village in southwest France which at one time was an important stop on a secondary route between Conques and Toulouse on the way to Santiago. In 1320 the Brotherhood of St James ran a refuge for pilgrims, and in the 16th century the St James Chapel was built. While it is small and somewhat neglected inside, I was glad to be able to find and visit the chapel on my walk today.

Now you’ll just have to add the GR 36 between Conques and Toulouse to your list of walks to do . . . and drop in for tea on the way.
Thank you . . . I’m very blessed to have this in my “backyard”.very big like, as some learners of the English language say when I ask for a degree of like!
I have snapped the last 3, to use as desktops from time to time! Thanks, beautiful.Walking through Ladner, across the beautiful old Westham Island wooden bridge over Canoe Pass and on to the island. A morning of rain, sun, rain, sun, rain, lovely light and fall colours.

I just returned from a trip to New England USA. Mt. Washington was quite chilly. I snapped a couple of photos, but my most interesting one was of the cairns used to highlight the walking path near the top to keep people from damaging the fragile alpine flora. A sign posted said to NOT move the rocks. Seeing the cairns reminded me of another thread on the forum where many debate whether they are a good thing or not.FYI: Last month in the sister thread to this I posted weather reports from Mount Washington, New Hampshire. It's a great place for a walk but not right now. I should quit posting but it just gets worse.

Summit conditions at Mount Washington were so brutally cold Saturday morning the temperature tied for the second coldest on Earth, according to Mount Washington Observatory.
The temperature hit minus 36 degrees Fahrenheit [-38 C] -- with a wind chill of minus 90 (minus 68 degrees Celsius), according to the educational and research institution in New Hampshire.
"We basically just start saying it's stupid cold outside," Mike Carmon, senior meteorologist at Mount Washington Observatory, told The New York Times.
The summit of Mount Washington sits at 6,288 feet [1,917 meters] above sea level.

Yes!!!I just started looking at this thread for the first time. A very huge "like" to all the wonderful photos and commentary posted from so many corners of the globe!
Well, at least your lovely photos were not too far away from where you live...I have to travel farther to find beautiful scenery.Thank you. To my regret, I still haven’t visited Ireland! So many more places to go to...
Is it Illinois? If you knew how exotic it sounds to meOh really? Your neck of the woods has a bright red colour! Just what we need!View attachment 47037

Lovely elephant with red toenails.Walk? Well, ok a little bit. To the doctor. Silly me, fluid on the knee. But just look at the cure!!! I confess, the one I got is plain old plain old, but I just thought, there will be something on the melifump theme... 9cold pack for those with vision like mine!)

Yes, Illinois...exotic? t's mostly flat. We go up to Wisconsin state parks for quick getaways. Otherwise our beautiful national parks out west, and both coasts are lovely, too. (But I do seem to be more in love with Europe...probably because of the many ancient villages and cities.)Is it Illinois? If you knew how exotic it sounds to me
I have literally thousands of trip pictures from "all over". Which ones do you want? Lol!Please do post some more pics Chris.
Really looking forward to them.
Every 13th one!I have literally thousands of trip pictures from "all over". Which ones do you want? Lol!
Such beauty! Tell us more, and two are plenty with such composition. Thanks very much. They are worthy of framing, actually.
Well, the first photo is in Canada on the drive in the valley between Banff and Jasper national parks. The second photo is on the island of Santorini, Greece. It was a stop on a cruise with 12 family members.Such beauty! Tell us more, and two are plenty with such composition. Thanks very much. They are worthy of framing, actually.
No matter - they are gorgeous photos and lovely to see them!In hindsight, I forgot that this thread was asking where we walked locally in 2018. My photos are not local and were from 2016...oops, sorry!
I'm not a birder, but love spotting unique varieties. Is your final photo possibly an Osprey? On a bird walk yesterday morning along the tidal flats near my home. First time I've been one with some serious birders!. Fun being with them and watching the excitement as they spot something specialLearned a lot.

Weather looks glorious!
Do not see any " klompen " thoughJust kidding. Do enjoy it to the fullest ,but seeing the beer and bitterballen that won't be a problem.

shoes looking good! thanks for report on your camino. I am sure others will take heart from it.I have just come back home from walking Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Lugo. It was wonderful, sunshine all the time and nice forest roads and paths. And it was not too demanding for a Norwegian living among mountainsAnd now I wanted to keep up the good work walking here, but the weather is awful! Raining all the time, 5-8 degrees and new snow in the mountains. I have to wait for better weather. Until then you can admire my Hoka shoes which made me walk without problems with my feet.View attachment 47245
yes: ordinary? exotic? depends on the lens... thanks for sharing your ordinary! So many wonderful photos! Love the birds, @Theatregal!
It was a very rainy day here...I am back again to where that happens more.
Went to the coast for a short walk where it can be nicer, and it was, a little. Returned in the evening, as the light was fading. There were still a family of hardy swimmers at the small beach, teaching their baby to the joys of the ocean in spite of the rain.
I have to thank all of you for helping me see what feels ordinary - taking a few pictures to share opened my eyes to the amazing textures and light, even on a rainy day. (The highlight of the day was a pair of small sea turtles, swimming back and forth in a small channel in the lava rock. They are often there, and that never feels ordinary!)
Indeed. Your ordinary is my exotic, @kirkie!depends on the lens

I've noticed the same about the Norwegian weather... Still in two minds about my next camino next summer, but I keep thinking about doing the St Olavsleden from Oslo. Too bad the Sundsvall Olavsleden whupped my #ss this year.[/QUOTE
The weather in summertime can be very unpredictable in Norway. This summer was splendid, but September has been awful. Olavsleden in an inland camino, and usually the weather is more stable and the summer better there than in my part of the country.
I wore Hokas on the Le Puy last June, which often had lots of rocks and roots. The shoes were like walking on marshmellows and I couldn't feel a thing underfoot. They also grabbed on to slippery wet rocks really well....highly recommend!I have just come back home from walking Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Lugo. I love your photos, especially the cafe still life. What a place to while away a few hours watching the world unfold before you!Citytrip to Santiago de Compostela.
Not as a pilgrim this time.
Lots of people...very different than in my early Spring Caminos.
The joy of those arriving is the same though.
Very peaceful cloisters, Sabine. Savour the time. It will fuel your inner peace store for the long winter ahead!Still in wonderful Santiago.
Walked to Santa Maria La Real de Sar.
Just two k. walk from the Cathedral but a world of difference.
Quiet and intimate. Beautiful Romanesque church and cloister.
The added Baroque did not appeal to me.
Also a small but interesting museum attached to it.
And no one but I to visit.Again a big contrast to the hordes in the Cathedral.
Crisp, and clear. Make hay while the sun shines! Here we are currently looking ahead to 4-5 days of sunny clear skies, low wind and temperatures above 20 C, which is very unusual in these parts this time of year. The mets call it ‘autumn-summer’.
So I took a walk by the lakes today.

Almost unheard of in mid-October: Being able to have lunch outside under the autumn colored trees.

all nice but cute little yellow fellow.Heat pads let me walk! 55 mins to and 51 minutes from the Botanics. just over 4km each way. took some photos... first three along the canal. Then my favourite ceramic pieces inside, and finally - a band of pilgrims!
