This is an insane idea, but I don't care. I have invitations to stay in a village in Senegal. Although I have been telling myself 'enough is enough - no more walking' the idea of walking back via the Sahara and Morocco over a slow, long year is irresistable. If all goes to plan I will have a travelling companion who is exceptionally good at languages, so I don't have to learn French.
My questions:
1. Does anyone here know of anyone who has experience of walking in NW Africa?
2. Is there a recognised pilgrimage route?
We intend to start walking in January 2011. We have money to cover costs. We're looking for sponsors to pay charity (hopefully a charity that will provide camino experience with a mentor for those who need a mentor). We will be creating 'good news stories' working on art and craft projects with children in villages and city suburbs.
Much to plan. All advice greatly appreciated. I'm really looking forward to this no matter how tough it gets. Dakhar to Santiago over 12 months
