Camino Portugues Sept "2016''
I intend walking from Lisbon to Santiago next month. I have previously walked the Camino de Santiago route at this time of year but am unsure as to whether I will require a sleeping bag as accommodation appears to be restricted and I've been unable to find out what type may be available.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Hello. I did this walk back in May/June and did not carry a sleeping bag. I only found one albergue that did not supply blankets automatically. Sometimes they had one or two you could borrow otherwise I just slept in all my clothes! ;-) Mel

Hi, you are fine without a sleeping bag, until you hit the Xunta albergues in Spain. I stayed at the Xunta albergue in Porrino in March this year, and they have no blankets. With all my clothes on, and my rain jacket over me, I woke up very very cold at 3am.

Curios did you carry a sleeping bag on the Camino de Santiago? Did you need it? I will be on Camino de Santiago mid Sep- late October, and wondered if sheet was enough?

I definitely needed mine last October in Galicia. In September I would have been too cool to sleep only a few times but a liner might have been enough.

I carried a sleeping bag on the Camino de Santiago Sept/Oct and I did use it towards the end of my journey as by the time I reached Galicia it was dark until almost 8am cold and wet and I do feel the cold. In the beginning a silk liner would have been sufficient - also I had the opportunity of paying a little extra and actually stayed in some accommodation which provided sheets and blankets (what a luxury!)

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Thank you Mike for your response. As I only weigh 50 kgs it's difficult for me to carry too much in my backpack and I was unsure as to whether ditching my sleeping bag was a good or bad thing ( I hate feeling cold!!) Perhaps I should leave something else home instead!

I weigh 61kg and had everything I needed for 6 weeks last year with a 4.5kg pack (without water and food so probably 6kg or less) including my sleeping bag at 0.4kg. Sea to Summit Traveler sleeping bag.

Hi! Hope to see you on the trail. I'll probably start Sept. 15th. Not sure whether I want to walk that first stage from Lisbon, though.
